Worth what I paid for it,
By Peter Marks (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: JavaScript by Example, with CD-ROM (Paperback)
I picked up a copy of this book to learn a bit about Javascript. I thought that the book was well written, geared a bit more towards intermediate users than beginners. What I found interesting, was that it had real world examples in it.I also noted, that many of the reviewers seemed upset with some of the examples. When I loaded older versions of Netscape, it seemed to be more a problem with the netscape javascript interpeter then with the code itself. Also, one should take into account the date of printing. Some research shows that when first published, Netscape 3.0 was in beta. I liked the book. And I honestly think the other reviewers were a bit too harsh.

Best Javascript book out there.,

Every person I spoke too had nothing but accolades for this book. I was a bit skeptical at first, but when I picked myself up a copy, I knew that I had not been mislead. This book guides you step by step through the inner workings of JavaScript, allowing you to work at your own pace. I heartily recommend this book for anyone aspiring to learn JavaScript.

A step-by-step Javascript beginner self study book,

I bought this book when I was curious about Java language. I think Javascript could be a bridge to understand the Java itself. This book is useful for you only if you already know about HTML. If you do not familiar with HTML, I suggest that you read "HTML by example" by Todd Stauffer (QUE edition).

I wouldn't recommend reading this book if you have never looked into Javascript before, but if you have a general understanding of the web, HTML, and rudimentary Javascript, it can be very insightful.

Don't by it unless you want to learn to debug!!!,

The only reason this book received one star is because Amazon.com doesn't think any book deserves zero stars. DO NOT BY THIS BOOK!!! I question Stephen Feather's knowledge of Java Script!!! I have had to debug each and every code example in the whole book!!! I wasted more time debugging Mr. Feather's poor knowledge of the JaveScript object model than I did learning about it!!!! I will NEVER buy another QUE book again if this is the kind of poorly edited books they put their name on!!! if you want to learn JavaScript, look elsewhere... O'Reilly is far more competent that Mr. Feather. I highly recommend the "Webmaster in a Nutshell" book and CDROM. The additional cost make it worth it!!!!

I got this book to learn javascript and for examples. After reading thru it a few times I found that it didnt do either. There was an entire chapter dedicated to HTML though. what a waste. This is the LAST time I am buying a book from QUE!

I should have given -10 for this book. Stephen Feather can eat my socks! Get a life. Too many errors and old information in the book

Why bother publishing this kinds of books?,

I have to admit that this book is really BAD! It seems likethe author did not put much time doing reasearch for the project. I was quite disappointed with the product. This is probably the last book I will ever buy from QUE. Most the examples do not work on Netscape 3.0+. What a waste of money!?!

This book was a waste of time and money. The author does not know how to explain the concept well enough to use the knowledge for the web. I would rather through my money in the wather than buying this book
