That brings us to the Jawbone Icon HD. Let me just say this - I had one for about 4 months before I lost it, and for the first time EVER I replaced it with the exact same model! That's right, I believe that I have found the holy grail of bluetooth headsets. It is comfortable, lightweight, small, stays on your head (once you figure out which of the 6 earpieces fits your ear best), the noise cancellation is AMAZING, sound on my end is loud & clear, the other person can always here me fine, the range is acceptable, and the battery life is pretty good (4-5 hours talk time). Just to give you an idea of how incredibly well the noise cancellation works: I work in a golf shop and we do club repair which involves a high speed cutoff saw and a 42" sanding machine, and I can be in the repair room with the sander and cutoff saw both running and the person on the other end can hear me fine with just a hint of interference. To put that into perspective, I have a hard time shouting to a person standing directly next to me in that room and having them understand me, that's how loud it is in there.Read more ›
This will not be a traditional review. I have all manner of good things to say about the Jawbone as a traditional Bluetooth headset. The Icon is fabulous for calls. I can hear people crystal clear (most headsets do this), they can hear me well (much rarer), battery lasts a long time, its Noise Assassin wipes out background noise and it fits well in my ear. Don't get me wrong, I could go on, however, the driving force was audio books.
The raison d'être for picking the Icon HD was its ability to use A2DP and, hence, pick up all sounds off of the phone; in particular, I can listen to my books on Audible (as well as ones from the Library on Overdrive). It can also pick up music and video sound, but I'll use my Klipsch Image S4's on the road or, at home, my Grado SR60's for that purpose.
Wow, how cool it is to be wireless and free, listening to my audio books wherever I want and whenever I want. Cleaning up & John Scalzi's Redshirts, doing dishes & Michael Underwood's Geekomancy or ironing and Erin Mortgenstern's The Night Circus lead to much happier chores. In a more reflective mode, I may listen to a passage from Crossway's ESV Bible Windows Phone app. Most of my listening time does happen during driving and I have an old school car that doesn't integrate with my smartphone, a Nokia Lumia 920. While the Lumia has a pretty loud speaker for a phone, listening to books over the headset rocks.Read more ›
For volume and call clarity, the icon is a clear winner, and now even better with the HD version. And for the $40 price tag, you canny beat this deal.
Friends that own the Era from jawbone, still like the icon better, and the HD fill the gap between the original to models.
Great for in the car or around the house-especially for smartphone users.
The moral of the story is to be careful, who you purchase items from. If it's to good of a deal, there's a reason and clearly the sellers aren't being straight forward with customers.
