5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
I am obsessed with the movie Jawbreaker, everyone I know knows that. So of course, I HAD to get the soundtrack, and after basically a year of searching I finally found it in a bookstore in Seattle, and got it, and was not dissapointed. 3.0 out of 5 stars Why eat bread when you can have cake?
The film has all the essential dull parts of the "teen dream" movie where the geek becomes popular and everyones happy. While Jawbreaker follows this trend it does have its twists, yet still your left wondering and thinking "as if" The soundtrack would have been superb if it had not have been for the lack of Veruca salts timeless "Volcano...

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!, July 30, 2002
This review is from: Jawbreaker: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I am obsessed with the movie Jawbreaker, everyone I know knows that. So of course, I HAD to get the soundtrack, and after basically a year of searching I finally found it in a bookstore in Seattle, and got it, and was not dissapointed. The soundtrack is very enjoyable, it has fun music from the movie, although I know the song "Trouble" is only in the trailers, I haven't heard Ednaswap's "Next to You" or Howie Beno and Cruella Deville's remake of the Cyndi Lauper classic "She Bop" but, it's still an awesome soundtrack, here's what I think of the songs:

1. "Yoo Hoo" By Imperial Teen- Who couldn't love this song? You'd have to see the movie to get the song, and appreciate it. Of course, this song is when Courtney, Julie (one time Fern/Vylette), and Marcie are walking down the halls, it's also at the end of the movie during the credits.

2. "I See" By Letters to Cleo-I love Letters to Cleo, Kay Hanley's voice is magical. I love this song, it has a great beat, it's fun to listen to, I love it. This song is the part when Courtney, Julie, and Marcie get into the car, and drive to the diner.

3. "Next to You" By Ednaswap-I love this song! Ednaswap rocks. It isn't featured in the movie though.

4. "Don't Call me Babe" By Shampoo- I love this song, Shampoo is a very good band. This song is at the part when Vylette is taking over the school, such as the part between the girl in the bathroom and the goth girl: "Haven't you heard about Vylette? It's all about Vylette".

5. "Bad Word For a Good Thing" By The Friggs-I really like this song, it has catchy lyrics, it's a good song. This song is in the part when Zach drives Julie home, and she gives him her #.

6. Stay in Bed" By Grand Mal-The only complaint I have about this song, is that it's very long, or at least it seems that way, all in all, it's a good song. This song is when Julie and Zach are looking for the picture and the diner to prove what Courtney did.

7. "Flow" By Transister-I think this is my favorite song on the album. It's kind of a sad song though, but I really like it. This song plays when Julie sees Liz swimming in the pool.

8. "She Bop" By Howie Beno and Cruella Deville-This is a good song, I like the original by Cyndi Lauper a lot too. This song dosen't play in the movie either

9. "Water Boy" By Imperial Teen-I like "Yoo Hoo" better, but this song is also good. This song plays when Vylette is sitting on the front of her car dancing.

10. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" By The Scorpions-I really like this song, it's an oldie but a goodie, and very worth llistening to. This song plays when Courtney is telling Vera Cruz about Liz's so called "obsession" with strange men, and then shows Courtney in a bar with guest appearence by Marilyn Manson (He's still ugly without makeup)

11. "Rock 'N' Roll Machine" By The Donnas-I like this song, The Donnas are a very good group, and I liked their cameo in the movie. This song plays at the prom.

12. "Beat You Up" By The Prissteens-this song is ok, it's worth listening to, I like it, it kind of reminds me of one of those old '50s songs about Boyfriends coming back (haha). This song plays when Julie is about to get on the bus, and Zach offers her a ride.

13. "Trouble" by Shampoo-I like this song, the only problem, is the the lead singer yells the song more then sings it, but it's good. This song is only in the trailers...

Well, there's my review of the songs. The songs I wish were on there are "Volcano Girls" by Veruca Salt which plays at the beginning when it shows the jawbreakers being made. And a song called "Heartbreaker" by The Friggs (which I can't find ANYWHERE. If you can find it, please help me out and tell me!) it plays when Courtney tells Vylette she needs a boyfriend, and tells her to sign up for the school play with Zach, so then Julie won't have him. But Anyways...Enjoy this CD, and good luck finding one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best soundtrack since Clueless, August 14, 2000
By
This review is from: Jawbreaker: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I've loved Howie Beno's work since he was in Drag/13mg, and his She Bop with Cruella DeVille is gutsy and aggressive. Yoo Hoo is an instant classic, and the scenes from the movie with them walking slow motion ala 'Suburbia' are forever linked in my mind.

Transister's 'Flow' is a very sweet, sad song, very moving. Not since the Cure's 'Disintegration' have I gotten so choked up by a song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jawbreaker, March 16, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Jawbreaker: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I think that the "Jawbreaker" soundtrack rocks. Although I am dissapointed that Veruca Salt's "Volcano Girls" wasn't on it. "Jawbreaker", I think, is the best movie in the world, I love it, and I love the soundtrack. I really like "Flow" by Transister, "I See" by Letters to Cleo (they rock), and "Yoo Hoo" by Imperial Teen (whenever I hear it, I picture Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, and Julie Benz walking slow-mo down the halls of Reagan High). It's a a great soundtrack, and a great movie.

This is one of the best "teen movie" soundtrack's I herad in a while. The only thing that got me is that "volcano girls" and "heartbreaker" was not included in it( ????!!!???) but other then that, great soundtrack! My favorite track is the song called "Flow" by transister. Very haunting and Beautiful!

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad, but could be better, May 10, 2006
This review is from: Jawbreaker: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
this soundtrack wasn't too bad. it was missing some essential songs such as the veruca salt classic "volcano girls" and the cars' "good times roll" but other than that there are a lot of kick-ass songs on there. My top songs would be the following:

Don't Call Me Babe
Yoo Hoo
Water Boy
Trouble (only featured in theatrical trailer, not actual film)

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD was so good I almost choked on my jawbreaker!, June 18, 2005

This review is from: Jawbreaker: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I loved this CD a lot. I heard of the movie Jawbreaker through the Donnas website, back in 2003 because they did a cameo in it near the end. This movie is great and the soundtrack has yet to dissapoint me. A lot of the bands are indie artist that I never heard of until I bought the soundtrack. These bands are awesome!! This is what I think about each song:

1. "Yoo Hoo" - Imperial Teen: this song I find funny. But, out of all the songs I find funny (for example, "Ice Ice Baby") this has got to be the better one of them all. It's decent and fun to dance to (although none of you would wanna see me dance ^_*).

2. "I See" - Letters to Cleo: I already have the original CD this song came on so it's safe to say this song is awesome. Plus I love Kay Hanley. Women in rock rule!

3. "Next To You" - Ednaswap: This song is pretty decent. It's not my favorite, yet I love it!!

4. "Don't Call Me Babe" - Shampoo: I can't get this song out of my head. I love how heavy it is. Plus the fact that (I believe) it's Brit-Pop is awesome ^_*

5. "Bad Word For A Good Thing" - The Friggs: I love this song. I had heard it on a commercial and fell in love with it. Then, upon renting and watching this for the first time, I descovered this song yet again and loved it even more. Eventually I looked it up here on Amazon.Com to find out who did it and fell in love with the band. By the way, what happened to them?

6. "Stay In Bed" - Grand Mal: This is a really good song also. I completely enjoyed it =)

7. "Flow" - Transister: I can't stand slow songs, I don't know why, but I do like this song. I don't listen to it as much as the rest of the CD, but I do, on occasion, listen to it. Great vocals!

8. "She Bop" - Howie Bend: I'm not crazy about this song. The vocals are also great, but I don't like it that much. I've only heard 30 seconds of this, though, before changing the track #, so I'll have to go re-listen to this... so don't take this song's review to heart (although I doubt you'd take this whole review to heart, lol)

9. "Water Boy" - Imperial Teen: Also by the same group who did "Yoo Hoo". Although I liked "Yoo Hoo" better, I enjoy this one the same.

10. "Rock You Like A Hurricane" - Scorpions: I love the oldies! Whenever I hear this song, I start to get into it. Rockers can't help but love this song. If they don't, then they're crazy & hate the oldies!

11. "Rock 'N' Roll Machine" - The Donnas: My favorite group ever! They are the reason I bought this movie, but not the reason I bought the soundtrack (this song appears on their debut album "American Teenage Rock 'N' Roll Machine"). The other song they perform in the prom scene "Checkin' It Out" (which is also on their debut disc) should've been on the soundtrack. Otherwise, no complaints!

12. "Beat You Up" - The Prissteens: This song is pretty fun, too. I enjoyed how 50s-inspired it is! Although, back in the 1950s, I doubt they'd be singing about beating someone up...

13. "Trouble" - Shampoo: This is yet another fun song. (Note: fun songs are the songs I think are cool. I should've mentioned this earlier....) I believe this is a remake...? It's a very good song except for the fact they shout a bit. I still think their other song, "Don't Call Me Babe", was better.

See? I think it's pretty good. I think this soundtrack, in the words of Allison Robertson of the Donnas (although using it about the soundtrack and not one of their songs) "Is very profound... as I kept going on about it..."

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome soundtrack!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Jawbreaker: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I love this soundtrack! It's fitting and goes well with an overall great cultish/dark teen comedy movie, and it's one of those rare soundtracks that are an integral part of the movie, like the soundtrack of the 1988 Hairspray (which is my favorite of all time). It's mostly catchy light alternative rock, with some more classic songs like "Rock You Like a Hurricane" and "Let the Good Times Roll," and it makes me nostalgic for the '90s. It's coherent and has a similar sound throughout, but I'd say it's still pretty eclectic and versatile, with a range of sounds.

Like everyone else has said, I wish "Volcano Girls" by Veruca Salt, the song that's playing in the opening credits, was included, because it's one of the best songs in the movie and seems to express the attitude of the film well. Representative of that light girl-punk feel. I don't really know what they were thinking on that one, should have been the first track. Really bad choice they made.

I'm not going to talk about all the songs because other people have already, just comment on some.

"Flow" is a slow, sad song, the singing is sweet and melodic. I think it's perfect for this scene, one of my favorite in the movie, and makes it more memorable: Julie dream-seeing her best friend Liz rising up out of the pool, water streaming down her hair. How sweet and surreal, it gives a little more depth to the movie. An actual moment of emotion, and mourning for her friend.
One of the things I like about this movie is the film devices they use, which is kind of surprising because it's not really necessary for the plot, but it's interesting and surreal and more artistic - like the dream sequence where they're transforming Fern ("The beauty we molded from sheer misery"), where Julie is making her way down the hall through the students and everything else is frozen, etc. Also, I just love Courtney's line, "I mean, food's cool and all, it tastes good, and you need it to live," LOL. I think I'm going to be saying that for the rest of my life.

"Rock You Like a Hurricane" - What a great song for that scene. I think I'll always remember the wicked curve of Courtney's waist, her tiny waist in the corset and those voluptuous hips swaying, to that song, seducing a sleazy Marilyn Manson, heh. Just a totally cool part of the movie, and the song is so well associated with it.

"Rock 'N' Roll Machine" - actually one of my favorite songs on the soundtrack, though it's one of the most immature, juvenile-sounding. So fun and a bit edgy, even with that childishness, that small Plain-Jane generic voice. Definitely reminds me of the late '90s. I'm glad they had that in the prom scene, kind of like I'm glad they played "Forever Young" at Napoleon Dynamite's prom.

"Beat You Up" is a '50s-inspired song with a rock edge. I like it, but I'm a sucker for those '50s tunes. I love how they imitated that sound.

I guess my favorite tracks are Let the Good Times Roll, Beat You Up, Rock You Like a Hurricane, and Rock 'N' Roll Machine (and would be "Volcano Girls"), though the others are all good and different in their own ways, too. They're all worth listening to, and contribute something to the soundtrack.

In short, thoroughly enjoyable and it's a great CD to listen to in your car driving on a road trip with your friends or something, and kinda different, despite and maybe a little because it's "cheap and sleazy," as the description says!

Whats the song that is playing when Julie is walking under the bleachers at school after the principal anounced that Liz died??? The fact that there are so many missing songs is my only complaint.
