Gem under a rock,
By
This review is from: Jaws of Life (Audio CD)
There's often two categories of indie these days - 'mainstream indie' and 'indie indie' and maybe there's even 'indie indie indie'. I don't know if Fine China is in the last category of indie, but this Jaws of Life CD is definitely one of the best new records I've heard in 2005. I caught 'My Worst Nightmare' one night listening to XMU (indie radio) and I bought the entire CD to check it out -- I was not disappointed - they have taken a step up from 'When the World Sings' and bettered their production value, their lyrics, and their variety. This album is yet another this year that is flying under the radar and is well worth checking out.

Great Potential,

This review is from: Jaws of Life (Audio CD)
This band has enormous potential. They need to market themselves better, I have only heard their music occasionally on XMU-43, and not Sirius 26 (L.O.C.). A person cannot even purchase one of the the other 2 CD's (2002 release "You Make Me Hate Music") except from their website. Although the singer(Rob Withem) sounds like he is on drugs half the time (slurred speach), the lyrics and the music overall are very good. The singer's voice is almost irritating at times and his droning can be annoying on few songs (press skip button). They have flashes of brilliance on several songs. Here are the best songs 1. Prosecute Electocute #11 (excellent!), R-Rated Movie #1, 3. Cells Divide #4, 4. My Worst Nightmare #10. In addition tracks #2,3 and 6 are decent. These guys have been together for 9 years and have 3 full lenghth CD's. I own hundreds of discs from this genre and this band is definetely one to keep an eye on. They are similar to Pilate, Stabilo, sproll, 16mm, The Ghost is Dancing and Jets Overhead. All of which I highly recommend! Overall 4 Stars and worth the price.
