"Jaws In Orbit" -- A Successful Mission,
By Michael B. Richman (Portland, Maine USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Jaws in Orbit (Audio CD)
I began listening to Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis via his numerous associations with Johnny Griffin, but I have now come to appreciate his collaborations with organist Shirley Scott in equal measure. This smokin' 1959 session finds trombonist Steve Pullman, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Arthur Edgehill joining "Jaws" and Scott on four originals and two standards. "Jaws in Orbit" doesn't reach any celestial heights, but it's a solid, soulful outing and overall a successful mission.
