Step up to Shake Up! Players try to move their pawns up four playing surface levels and drop them through the Safe Zone holes. They get three chances to shake the dice per turn; if they get either four of a kind or a run of four, they step up to the next level and get another turn. Shake it on the first try and demote an opponent to the starting level. Only have three of a kind, two pairs, or a run of three? That'll still move you up a level, but no extra turns. Two of a kind? Sorry--pass the dice. What? None of the above? Penalty! Like life, this step-by-step game of strategy for two to four players is filled with ups and downs. I purchased this game for the family not knowing if it was going to be challenging enough to keep anybody's interest, but it was inexpensive enough to give it a try. This ended up being one of the family's favorites. We let the kids (boy, age 12 and girl, age 8) pick 2 or 3 different games when we have "Saturday night game night" and this often ends up being one of the chosen games. There's enough strategy to keep it interesting, but it's not complicated or difficult. There's enough luck of the dice so who is ahead can change rapidly. And it's very satisfying to get one of your pieces to the top and drop it through the hole so it can't get sent back to start. And great fun when you roll 4 of a kind first roll so you can move, send someone back to start, AND roll again! The pieces are big enough for adults and children to handle. One of the draw-backs is that if you bump the board, the pieces can shift and you may not remember where they belong. So it's not a game for very young children who may accidently bump the board when moving their pieces. However, for elementary school age and up, it's not been a problem at all. It's a game for 4; playing with two is boring. It doesn't look like much, but it's a great addition to your collection. Enjoy!

WOW I purchased this for my 11 & 12 year old niece and new few I am 47 so not knowledgeable about today's reviews I trusted other reviewers to guide me. Boy were they wrong! The kids said this game was BORING and they we right! I played along with them we barely finished 4 rounds before we said this game was stupid and changed to anther. I would not recommend.for adults or older BTW: even the 9yr old was BORED!

Shake Up is sort of a cross between Yahtzee, Sorry and Parcheesi. You shake the 4 dice and try to make combinations that allow you to move your pieces up the board and into the holes at the top. The first player to get all of their pieces to the top wins the game.

If a player rolls 4 of a kind or a 4-straight, the player can move one piece up a space and also has the option of moving an opponents piece down to the starting level. So there are plenty of opportunities to be mean to your opponents! :-)
