5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait/very educational
The description of this computer game speaks for itself and was worth the wait. It captivates my 4 yr old daughter and reinforces what she is learning in preschool/prekindergarten.

I had some problems installing it - since we just got it I know amazon will come thru if there is a problem.

2.0 out of 5 stars Typical cookie-cutter children's game
Like just about every other children's game (think JumpStart) this game is made in Macromedia's Director. And also, like just about every other children's game, it is low-budget, low-talent and low-resolution. The game forces itself into 800x600x16-bit @ 60Hz and after you exit the game, guess what? You're still in 800x600x16-bit @ 60Hz. Because the programming talent is...

Because the programming talent is nonexistent the game is rigidly linear, forcing you to watch the mind-numbing instructions before EVERY game no matter how many times you've played it previously. And, in what seems to be a trend among children's games, it requires Administrator privileges to not only install, but also RUN the game! I am not about to give my 28-month-old son those elevated permissions on the family computer. Not because I'm afraid of intentional mischief but because I'm afraid of the accidental damage he could do. The only things that save this title are the videos and cutscenes which feature plenty of time with the main characters and keep my son interested.

A fun program that my nephew has enjoyed for weeks. The activities keep him coming back over and over and the theme of helping each other and conservation are messages that it is never too early to expose children to. Like the Jay Jay Earns his Wings program, this one is a winner. Where can you get the Sky Circus program I see listed as discontinued?

3.0 out of 5 stars Unintelligible voice commands detract from this game, July 12, 2005
By
Allison (Tucson, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jay Jay the Jet Plane: Sky Heroes to the Rescue (CD-ROM)
We bought this game because we already had and liked Jay Jay Earns His Wings. This game has an identical interface. There are several activities that must be accomplished in order to do one final activity. Before starting each new activity for the first time, an "animated" sequence is shown with the original character voices (their mouths move and that's about it). After completing all activities, the reward is getting to play and compose music on the "Sparkleberry tree." There are three skill levels to choose from.

The activities focus strongly on phonics--letter and sound recognition. There is also a spatial component (steering Herky in a maze), and some color recognition. One major problem with the activities is that there is no way to have instructions repeated, and many of the commands are difficult to hear. "Find the letter that makes the sound...." and you are left wondering, Was that a T? a D? an E? My 4 year old son and I BOTH had trouble understanding the instructions, and we have no problems with our sound system. Unfortunately, you can't move ahead on the game without getting the right answer, so we had to choose between making random guesses until we got it right or exiting.

In the end, my son was also disappointed with the "reward" of being able to play music on the Sparkleberry tree at the end of the game. This type of activity is featured (and better executed) on many other children's computer games. He was hoping for something to color or print out like you earn with the Jay Jay Earns His Wings game, which I'd recommend instead of this one.

My son absolutely LOVES Jay Jay the Jet Plane, but didn't get into this software at all. The games are boring and I could just see the disappointment in his face. I'm glad I didn't pay full price, and instead bought it on clearance at a local retailer.
