I have many hours of pleasure listening to the sounds of the sixties and this collection by Jay and the Americans is awesome, from begining to end the magic of Jay's voice comes thru loud and clear. He has the best range of vocal sounds that makes all the memories of the sixties come right back as though it was yesterday,Cara Mia /Only in a America are only two of the great songs on this CD.If you enjoy the variety in the vocal abilities and the music this is a must have.

After John "Jay" Traynor left the Mystics in 1960, he got together with Howard Kane (né Kirschenbaum), Kenny Vance (né Rosenberg) and Sandy Deanne (né Yaguda). The newly named Jay & the Americans, a throwback to '50s doowop, produced one Top Ten record, "She Cried." A trio of follow-up singles didn't break the Hot 100. After a fight with Deane, Traynor left for a solo career with Phil Spector. His replacement, vocalist David Blatt changed his name to Jay Black. Blatt's bandmate in the Empires, Marty Sanders (né Kupersmith) also joined and for a while the Americans were a quintet.

The revamped group's first hit, "Only in America" is the opening track on their 1967 UNART album JAY & THE AMERICANS!! (M21018/S21018). It peaked at #25 nationwide in 1963. Their only other charters here are "Think of the Good Times" (#57 on Billboard's Hot 100 in '65), and "Let's Lock the Door" (#11 in Dec. of '64). By the time this album was released, Kane was an ex-American.

"Only in America" has a marimba and brass hook. Jay Black sounds so young on this finely produced track. "I'll Remember You" is a very melodic love song in classic Americans style. Their cover of "Monday, Monday" is a bit shrill and busy. Thanks to an imaginative string arrangement and Jay's top-notch vocal, "Nature Boy" is quite pretty. "Too Many Times, Diana" is this LP's only group-written song, with lyrics by Sanders and Kane, music by Vance.

This 3 CD set of Jay and The Americans has tweeked my interest but before I'd even consider buying it, I'd like to know all the song titles and if the songs are originals or covers. Also, could each of the songs be available for a 30 second listen?

The oldies are my favorites. There isn't a song, especially performed by Jay and the Americans, that I didn't love. It brings back all my those golden memories.
