I'm reviewing the Hip-Hop Headliners series for my blog and so I'm reading quite a few of these little books, all of which are written at the early 2nd Grade level.

The ALICIA KEYS book was very, very simple and I wasn't all that impressed. (Although simple and easy can have it's uses.)

This book about JAY-Z is more like the book about USHER. It has more text --generally two lines per page-- and it features more actual biographical information.

Here's some sample text:

At Def Jam, Jay-Z helped young
hip-hop artists. Rihanna was one of
Jay-Z's new Stars.

As you can see, the company names and star names are a bit challenging. But it's likely that children interested in these stars will quickly learn the names.

The format of the book is full-page color photos on the right hand page, with text on the left.

I think it's a good little biography for younger readers.
