This review is from: Jaye P. Morgan (Audio CD)
I am 61 years old and I vaguely remember a singer named Jaye P. Morgan from an early TV show called "Your Hit Parade". It was an ensemble group of singers that sang and performed the weeks top radio hits every Saturday night. In the 70's she made the rounds of all the talk shows (Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas etc.) and the various game shows (Hollywood Squares, To Tell The Truth etc.), most notably she was a regular on Chuck Barris' "The Gong Show". Her recording career pretty much considered a thing of the past. But in 1976 a new relatively unknown producer was hired to put together a group of session players to play behind her on an album. That producer was David Foster, who would produce and write for Barbara Streisand, Celine Dion, Cher, Chicago, Boz Scaggs, Toto, The Tubes and bunches more.David put together some of the hottest session "cats" including Lee Rittenauer, Jeff Porcaro, Bill Champlin and others. They put out an album that I just bought and heard for the first time October 2010. I AM TRUELY BLOWN AWAY ! ! ! The writing, arranging, playing and production is phenominal. Jaye P. is as current sounding by today's standards right now on material she sang in 1976. She covers Earth Wind and Fire's "Can't Have Love" with a voice that would make Maurice White proud. The lion's share of the tunes are of that 70's well produced disco genre, with the "bouncy octive bass lines used by 'The Stones" and "Rod Stewart" in that era. The dance theme is infectious without sounding "campy". To hear this now you have to wonder, where was the promo department in 1976. This album should have gone somewhere sales-wise, it is a sad state of affairs, hearing this 34 years too late. As the title says "The Best Music You've Never Heard--By The Best Singer You've Never Heard Of"
