Fantastic and inspirational - timeless fine art,
By Vitruvius (Europe) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jayne Hinds Bidaut: Tintypes (Hardcover)
I've owned this book for several years now and feel that I owe it to the artist/author to comment on it. First, I have to say "thank you". It is obvious to me now that you poured enormous hours and dedication into each one of these tintypes, not just comtemplating the composition and arranging the mechanics of the tintype cameras, but also the grueling lab work involving the original (and hazardous!) chemicals. I'm sure that reach for truthful authencity wasn't good for your health. The results are what is so seldom found in so-called fine art books - a real reach beyond the repetious, cynical and commercial works we have all seen too often. I said I owned your book for years. What made me comment now is that after all the other art books in my library, yours is the one that I keep sharing with friends when I want to show them something really cool. Plus, I have to admit, I've "borrowed" some of your compositions from time to time. Yes, perhaps that's where you truly excelled. Well done. It is timeless art. This truly desrves the title of a classic.
