This CD just about floored me when I listened to it the first time. Now Baby or Never (a Billie Holiday penned gem) is superb, the semi-funk intro and vamp out on Lover Come Back to Me were totally unexpected and cool (esp. w/traditional interpretation on the head)and the soulful rendition of Muddy Water is a must listen. If there was a single reason to get this CD, however, it would have to be Tennessee Waltz. The first time I listened to it I thought, "cool, but something's not right..." There wasn't anything wrong with it, it just wasn't a waltz. Talk about turning something on it's head--Tennessee Waltz in a 4/4 second-line New Orleans ("straight")shuffle--no kidding. All I can say is--AWESOME!!!!

To hear Lillan Boutte sing is to make you want to jump and dance all at once. She is a truly gifted artist with great style and versatility. Makes you smile to hear that clear and strong sound ... Try it and you will be hooked. The only thing better is to hear her in the flesh.
