Great Overview, Great Value, May 4, 2001

This recording provides a great sampling of the artists, styles and works associated with the influential Concord Jazz label in the latter half of the 20th Century.
Because it is a live recording of a tribute concert, however, the four discs do not -- either individually or collectively -- comprise a particularly unified whole. There's simply too much chatter between cuts, which is a shame because otherwise this would be the kind of set you'd listen to over and over again.
Great performers. Great repertoire. Great energy. Great value. Yet still, sorry to say, not a great "listen."
