3.0 out of 5 stars Effective but flawed..., August 4, 1998

This review is from: Jazz Guitar Solos: A Study of Great Horn Solos Arranged for Guitar (Paperback)
I certainly expected what the title of this book suggested "...authentic horn solos..." but it fell short. The authors did a very good job of "pacing" the book (i.e. graded studies, historical data and some theoretical info) with the solos but several things were disappointing: 1) the solos were never ascribed to any specific horn player 2) the recording and the playing on the accompanying CD (by the authors!!!) is at times very sloppy and not proficiently executed However!!!!! The solos are perfect for sight reading and contain great ii-V-I licks as well as phrasing concepts galore!
