5.0 out of 5 stars Good groovin' jazz
The "Jazz for..." series by Jazz32 was one of the first influences to get me interested in jazz. Then I saw the Ken Burns jazz series on TV and it increased my interest still further. This cd, "Jazz for the Open Road," has a lot of groovin', upbeat numbers for when you are in a wide-awake mood. Or you want to be wide-awake, like when you are...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the "32 jazz" series
I ordered this because I thought it was a part of the "32 jazz" series. I have many of these including "Jazz for a Rainy Afternoon," "Jazz for when you're alone" etc.

This CD imitates the series, with similar cover photography and even the exact typeface for the titles. It is manufactured "..under license from 32 Jazz."

5.0 out of 5 stars Good groovin' jazz, October 17, 2001

The "Jazz for..." series by Jazz32 was one of the first influences to get me interested in jazz. Then I saw the Ken Burns jazz series on TV and it increased my interest still further. This cd, "Jazz for the Open Road," has a lot of groovin', upbeat numbers for when you are in a wide-awake mood. Or you want to be wide-awake, like when you are driving. This CD introduced me to Grant Green (guitar), Richard "Groove" Holmes (organ), David "Fathead" Newman (sax), and other great soul/groove performers. Of the first six releases in the "Jazz for..." series, this is the only one with a vocal track (Ernie Andrews, and it's a good one). All other tracks are purely instrumental, which I prefer most of the time for my jazz listening.

This is the second CD from the Jazz for a ... series that I own. Once again I found a top notch album. The mixture of artists is excellent. Each brings a unique style to the the jazz genre. I would recommend this CD to anyone, jazz lover or not.

I'd had this CD for a long time and had to replace it. Upbeat yet ambient, this album is a great backdrop--it's equally at home on the open road, when cleaning the house, or for summer evening drinks on the deck with friends. Nice variety on this compilation, my favorite of the "Jazz for the..." series. I enjoy a range of jazz styles, from West Coast to contemporary to big band classics, and I enjoy this one just as much for what it is. A pleasure.

I love this CD. It's just so darned hot. If you are listening to this at home, you really will want to get in your car and just go (and don't forget to take this CD along)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty cool - Base guitar, Alto sax, piano, November 2, 1999

I'm a new guy to listening to jazz but I like this CD. It has some cool songs that I thought were good if you're just crusin' in your car. I like the songs also because the melody is hip, and you can dance to it. This is a cool CD I suggest you get it if you like the sax, base guitar, and piano.

The music is just fine though. I'm glad I have the CD.
