Stunning portfolio of jazz photographs,
By Samuel Chell (Kenosha,, WI United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Jazz People (Paperback)
This is a heavy, portfolio-sized, coffee-table book even in its paperback edition. There are stunning photographs on every page, most of them new to this much-read follower of the music. Along with the photographs on each page is just the right amount of text (actually, it's context, providing a more specific setting for each of the photos by Ole Brask). Text is by Dan Morgenstern with forward by Dizzy Gillespie and introduction by James Jones.
Since the book is presently not pictured on Amazon, the reader should be aware that the photo cover is of Benny Goodman and Red Norvo. (The drummer, seen in half profile, I would guess to be Jo Jones.) |
