JAZZ PIANO ANTHOLOGY: SWINGERS opens with a twin keyboard jam and finishes nearly an hour later with a quick-tempoed "blues" number that showcases some souped-up sax blowing. This album features artists new and old, and is enjoyable thoughout. Points off only because "Take The 'A' Train" fades in midway through, thus one of the most famous intros in the jazz piano canon has to be assumed. Other than that minor flaw, you will find this set totally satisfying.TOTAL RUNNING TIME -- 56:10

This compilation was my first experience of jazz, and I loved it. The melodies are great for relaxing...they really provide a background that lets you ease out of tension. I was surprised at the variety, which kept me listening. It wasn't one of those recordings where every song sounds alike. The same feeling remained, but the tunes were different, and all of them were good. If you're looking for a good intro to this type of music, this is the cd for you.-Pete |
