This review is from: Jazz Piano: A Jazz History (Paperback)
Many young people are turned away from jazz because it is mainly instrumental and requires the listener's attention. In Taylor-made Piano, Dr. Taylor has written a much needed history of the founding and development of jazz and he makes studying jazz history very interesting and worthwhile. The book can also be used in music classes as an instructional book because Dr. Taylor covers jazz history and provides examples and instructions to the teachers that are very useful. There are still not too many books available about jazz, especially, piano jazz, and because of this, Dr. Taylor's book is very valuable. I recommend purchasing it as well as his Ph.D. dissertation, The History and Development of Jazz Piano: A New Perspective for Educators, which Dr. Taylor wrote as a graduate student at the University of Massachusetts in the early 1970s and is now for sale as a book on amazon. These are publications to treasure because he was a unique and wonderful artist.
