5.0 out of 5 stars The value of the music far exceeds its cost!, May 15, 1999

Brilliant! Just brilliant! Soulful, moving, moody and a total pleasure. Forget the professional reviews and all the "great" jazz albums - you simply can't buy better! There isn't a weak track on the album. Pitched perfectly, it takes you, ever so gently, to some of the nicest places you could ever wish to go. It's tirelessly fresh and totally a pleasure. You'll love it at the first play! Forget the sunscreen - trust me on this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Serene and beautiful, thoughtful music., April 5, 1999

I am not at all versed in the art that is jazz music. I am not an aficionado of classical, jazz, blues, et al. I'm sixteen years old and I like retro, alternative, punk, and rock. But I need to be peaceful sometimes. Whenever I need a warm hug and nobody is around, I put on this CD. It's an experience so unique I can barely describe. And it's more than worth what I bought it for.

I am only 23, but have been into jazz for about 6 years. The whole Jazz For series is fantastic. As each comes out i have a copy reserved and am first to receive it. I cannot reccomend strongly enough that you try this CD. Disappointment will not be a factor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good music for relaxing, or making love, October 17, 2001

The "Jazz for..." series by Jazz32 was an important influence in first getting me interested in jazz. Then I saw Ken Burns' TV series on the history of jazz and that got me still more interested, to the point that I have gotten beyond the "various artists" albums phase for most of my new CD purchases. This CD, "Jazz for the Quiet Times," introduced me to a great tenor sax player, Houston Person. Since then I have bought two of his albums. It also introduced me to Kenny Burrell (guitar) and other great soul/groove jazz performers. Most of the performers on this Jazz32 series are in the soul/groove style, which is not too cerebral, but great for easy listening and getting into a mood, whether driving, working, swinging, relaxing, or loving. Or cooking. I play this music when I'm having a beer and cooking supper. Also recommended in this series: "Jazz for a Rainy Afternoon," which is similar in mood to "Quiet Times," and "Jazz for the Open Road," which is more upbeat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful Pleasure, November 24, 2001

Body and Soul By Al Cohn and Zoot Sims is lush and peaceful: it's a really beautiful song. If you like soft, peaceful jazz, you'll like this album. Also, definitely try Jazz For A Rainy Afternoon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Jazz Compilation, May 10, 2010
By
This review is from: Jazz for Quiet Times (Audio CD)
Usually I shy away from jazz compilations because I find that I often have a lot of the selections from the original albums.......not so this one. I had heard of everyone on this set except Antoine Roney who turned out to be trumpeter Wallace Roney's younger brother also appearing on this album. The selections are excellent for a relaxed mellow mood which led me to read closely to determine the producer of this fine set. I was surprised to find that it was Orrin Keepnews who has a rich background as a producer for many labels and has won several Recording Aademy Grammy Awards and the Trustees Award for Lifetime Achievment from the Academy. Not surprisingly, this album peaked at #1 on Billboard's Top Jazz Albums of 1998. The material is first rate and obviously drawn from the producer's rich background from such labels as Muse, Landmark and Riverside. Finally besides the excellent musicians and material tailor made to fit a particular style and mood, this is beyond a doubt the best buy for a combination of quality and price that I have encountered.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS CD COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN CALLED "HONEYDRIPPIN' JAZZ FOR THE LATE NIGHT HOURS", March 8, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Jazz for Quiet Times (Audio CD)
This project features heavyweight artists like: Sonny Criss, Houston Person, Sonny Stitt, David Newman, and Kenny Burrell, just to name a few (And, Yes! There are others!!!)...How about this for Sidemen (Sidekicks): Jimmy Ponder, Idris Muhammad, Jimmy Cobb, Billy Higgins (And, Yes! There are others!!!). A reaaaaaaaaaaallllllll nice collection!, Well put together and it FLOWS FROM THE TIME YOU PRESS PLAY, UNTIL THE VERY LAST TRACK IS PLAYED! If you are still pondering around and wondering to buy this (As well as the other Series on 32 Jazz Records) or not......STOP!!!, AND BUY!!! Before they ALL become Collectors Items, and then you have no one to blame but yourself!

Great music just to listen to. Whether you're cooking, puttering around the house or commuting to work. I'm always looking for a sound that is relaxing and doesn't interfere (if I don't want it to) and this is one of them. Great for dinner as well, although I'm not sure that you could classify it as dinner music. I had never actually heard the whole CD, so I was pleasantly surprised with all of it. I highly recommend it.
