About the Artist

The Canadian Brass long ago reached legendary status in the musical world. In the early 1970s the five classically trained young men radically changed the perception of musical boundaries for performers and were one of the first to create recording in the brand-new "crossover' genre. First came Rag-Ma-Tazz, a ragtime era and ragtime influenced music recording, which was helped by the "newly discovered" and interest in the works of Scott Joplin at the time, given the popularity of the 1973 Oscar® winning film, The Sting. In 1977, Unexplored Territory was recorded and became the first runaway best seller for the Canadian Brass--the result of the unique collaboration with contemporary jazz pianist/composer Don Gillis. It was this album that Stereo Review remarked that "the Canadian Brass has entered their golden age." Few would disagree. Here for the first time in one CD package are both albums presented as bookends, as well as an homage, to the story of jazz.
