A highly recommended old style jazz singer, October 16, 1998
This review is from: Jazz Round Midnight (Audio CD)
Shirley Horn is far too unappreciated. She ranks among the greats of female jazz vocalists. If Miles Davis could sing, he'd sound like Shirley. This album is her typical lyrical style. No one plays piano and gushes out a song like the incredible Mrs. Horn!

Cream of The Cream of The Cream, July 8, 2000
This review is from: Jazz Round Midnight (Audio CD)
Each Shirley Horn album is the cream of the cream of the Great American Songbook. Now this CD is compiled material from her albums. If you don't know Ms.Horn (don't you?!), this is a good showcase. But Amazon.com also offers the originals: I prefer them.

You can't lose with Horn, the best female jazz singer of the '90s, and this is a good compilation of cuts from her most recent Verve albums. Each of those recordings is a 5-star affair (Here's To Life, You Won't Forget Me, The Main Ingredient, I Love You Paris, etc.), so start here, but by all means, keep exploring!
