MUSIC'S GREAT, BUT IT'S NOT THE SOUNDTRACK, June 13, 2002
This review is from: The Jazz Singer (Audio CD)
Please note that while this album/CD contains music from "The Jazz Singer", it is not -- contrary to the listing -- the actual soundtrack from the film.

Great Old Tunes from the Mammy Singer Himself!, January 15, 2007
I actually purchased this just to hear Blue Skies!
I own several Jolson CD's and tapes, but no where is Blue Skies.
It's great to hear him sing it and this song was in the Jazz Singer also. He comes home to visit his mother and sings this song for her, with allot of jibe and ad lib thrown in teasing his mom. The ending to this song is abrubtly cut off, as Al's {Jackie Robin} father storms in the room so the song stops. Nothing wrong with the CD, thats the way it is in the movie. The balacne of the tunes here are from the JS and other Jolson films up to 1935. They have his energy intact, and one can readily understand why he was so popular and the highest paid entertainer in his time.
But if your looking to hear better cuts, go and find the Columbia songs that were made for the Al Jolson Story from 1946. Those sound like they were cut yesterday and these of course have a tin pan alley sound quailty to them. " Blue skies smiling at me,,,nothing but blue skies do I see''...........

Solid collection of Jolson film cuts, October 23, 2001
This review is from: The Jazz Singer (Audio CD)
With cuts from more than just The Jazz Singer, this CD is a nice collection of movie tracks from Jolson's earlier films. In fact, except for the order of tracks, it has the same selections, and sounds much the same, as the Rhino collection of Warner tracks.
