5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful Latin-Jazz
This is a great album. One of my favorite vocal albums. Great arrangements by the great Tito Puente and wonderful, soulful vocals by the magnificent La India. I first listened to this album when I was in high school, about 7 years ago, and was just browsing around on Amazon and came across it. Immediately the arrangement of "I Think I'm Going Out of my Head" came to mind...

2.0 out of 5 stars She's no Celia!
This CD is on full throttle the whole time---which is fine if you're in a hurry to buy tostones. Put another way, India is no Celia C. She has little nuance, just an overly brash, full and jarring sound. She could turn a lullaby into a weapon. So, beware...

This is a great album. One of my favorite vocal albums. Great arrangements by the great Tito Puente and wonderful, soulful vocals by the magnificent La India. I first listened to this album when I was in high school, about 7 years ago, and was just browsing around on Amazon and came across it. Immediately the arrangement of "I Think I'm Going Out of my Head" came to mind. The arrangement on here made that song into one of my favorite songs. The big band is poppin' and the percussion solos are enough to make you move, whether you are in or out of your seat. Great latin arrangements of jazz standards, and a strong, soulful voice from La India.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combination of India's voice and Tito's playing, July 25, 1999
This review is from: Jazzin (Audio CD)
I was a bit sceptical when i bought this record because i only knew india from her salsa work. But i have to say that is one of my best jazz-vocal records. The combination of India's voice the intenes playing of Tito Puente is just great. The selection of songs is very good ranging from romantic to dancing. Altogether a great record!

5.0 out of 5 stars best of India - best of Tito, May 23, 2002

This is the best album I heared of La India and also one of the best things of Tito. I would like to hear more of this kind of songs from La India. The salsa-stuff is a little bit booring, from the creative point of view, I think.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent renditions of old classics from La India, February 1, 1999

Backed by the master of Latin jazz, La India outdoes herself with soulful renditions of old jazz classics. I'm 24 and the music has as much appeal to me as the more modern salsa of today. A must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wave...., June 5, 2003

I first heard the opening track of this CD on my local NPR station, and searched and searched to find it. Those who feel this doesn't show off India's remarkable vocal range and control, need only listen to that track. The rest of the album is icing on the cake. Listening to the give and take of this collaboration is exciting. Obviously, a seasoned, but dynamic performance by Tito, coupled with the fire of India's vocal treatment lends something to this set. Definitely worth the time if you are a fan of either of these artists.

2.0 out of 5 stars This album is not great, but tolerable..., December 24, 1998

"La India" has produced excellent songs in past albums--danceable and beautiful beats. However, I was disaapointed with this one. "Jazzin" definitely has a jazzy, upbeat appeal and features old jazz classics, but these "old-timers" do little, if any, justice to the soulful, powerful, and youthful voice of India. Tito Puente also delivers, but salsa music is where the both of them deliver best!
