Best in instrumental re-visits,
This review is from: Jazznesis - The Music Of Genesis 1970-1974 (Audio CD)
I know several instrumental revisits to the classic Genesis works, like the symphonic orchestra's and the songs played on two grand piano's. But this jazz quartet is so much better. Rather then to follow every single (vocal) note of the original songs, this group recreates the music with good taste and musical virtuosity. I've never much cared for listenig to a cover version that stays close to the original. This Jaume Vilaseca Quartet takes some of the songs from the Gabriel period and rework then into someting that is still recognizable, as it is something new. Especially their version of In The Cage is very suprisingly. But this whole album is a real treat for every Genesis fan, even for those who are not in to jazz music at all. I would love to hear them do some more of the uptempo tracks on a next album.
