5.0 out of 5 stars 100% creativity!!!!
When I heard Dave live with the Victor Bailey group I knew that I would have to get a Cd of his own. I bought "Jazzpunk" and the Cd really blew me!!! This is 1000% creative playing of great young and extremely talented musicians. I especially love the drumming of Zach Danzinger who has some superb rock, punk, jazz and funk going together at once! If you want to...

2.0 out of 5 stars I WANT MY MONEY BACK!
Shamless, self indulgent, never ending, whammy bar fusion! I WANT MY MONEY BACK! There's an actual song on this disc somewhere.

If you want the good stuff check out Screaming Headless Torsos. In the context of brilliant songs with verses, choruses, a bridge, and set solo sections, The Fuze is the second coming. On JazzPunk, The Fuze is a great painter without a...

5.0 out of 5 stars JazzPunk is a guitaristic Knock-Out!, November 27, 1999

Fuze, who I discovered through Me'Shell NdegeOcello's first album, is now my number 1 favorite guitar player. This album shows why! He is not only a brilliant guitarist but also a great arranger. All of these tunes have been rearranged in quirky, funky and rockin' ways! The rhythym sections absolutely destroy every tune and there were many times that I laughed out loud from the audacity of it all! You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tired of all that SOS? JazzPunk Rocks!!, October 21, 1999
By A Customer
I first heard Fuze play live at a gig at Wetlands in NYC in 1997. Wow! My ears really perked up. His playing was surprising, exciting, inventive and he had monster chops. I was afraid that a studio album wouldn't be able to capture what I heard that night, but this CD does not disappoint. Three different rhythm sections, great musicians, all kinds of styles, and always the guitar right out front. Fuze's reworking of Metheny's "Bright Size Life" knocked me out. If you like guitar and want to hear something new, buy this.

On JazzPunk, The Fuze is a great painter without a picture frame to collect the good stuff.

Anything goes (And I mean anything!). Any and all ideas run free, and it just goes on and on and on and on with endings to songs that never want to end for untold self indulgent minutes. The rhythm section is all over the place. Good editing and good taste is an underappreciated art.

There's something to be said for a producer to rope a guy in and pick the good stuff, but I suspect this is one of those projects where the artist gets the opportunity to do whatever the hell he wants to do. Forget trying to create something even remotely commerical that droves of jazz freaks would want to buy.

If it was me putting in all that effort for what it takes to put a CD out, I'd want to get something back for it. Then again I'm not part of the New York artsy fartsy, afrocentric, everybody play in a different key at The Knitting Factory, post Living Colour, harmolodic scene. Maybe that's the market for this recording. More power to you.

For this type of vibe Scott Henderson does a similar thing but it's actually very enjoyable. But that's LA for ya'. Always thinking.

As a musician, guitarist, and fan of all types of music, this one left me cold. Nothing to recommend it. If you want to hear some great jazz guitar, check out Kurt Rosenwinkle instead.
