The Defected's sublabel ITH Records has been putting out mixes for some time now. The problem with mix-cd's is, that it gets boring real quickly. Often, dj's play the same tracks and many of them released by Defected. Now with Jazzy Jeff In The House, I know I could expect something different. But I was blown away.

The hiphop legend has put together 3 CD's worth of classic house and oldschool. And when talking about oldschool, I mean musicians like The Temptations, Booker T & The MGs, Kool & The Gang, Hamilton Bohannon, Barry White, Nina Simone and many others. And in addition to that, house hedas like Kerri Chandler, Kenny Dope, Soldiers of Twilight, DJ Gregory, Julie McKnight, Jody Watley, Blaze and the list goes on!

The main reason why this CD stands high above the rest of ITH series, is it's classic approach. Jazzy Jeff blends together good old funk classics with some modern house tracks. Yet, he leaves out some of the dancefloor tracks from this or previous year. It has those surely selected tracks that all play their part well. It works! All the way!

It's hard to review the compilation which includes tracks that have pages of stories to tell.

I'll just put it short, if you "consume" a bit more music than the avarage bloke, you need this one!

First off - this guy knows his stuff. He's an expert and a pro. I always viewed him as a hip hop DJ from his other work but when I heard this mix I was extremely impressed. Mixing the Temptations with Kenny Dope? Damn. Great selections from back then and great cuts from recent releases. Plus there is a DVD which shows him in the mix and answering some questions for Defected. The mix isn't totally jazzy, deep, funky house but also dives into the realm of funk, r&b, soul and some world beats - it's just completely dope. The reason I give this CD such high marks is not only that I enjoy the music - but this guy actually took a chance and really portrays a real love for music and over two decades of collecting vinyl and respecting different styles that helped to mold his own style.

What can I say, but all 3 CD i can play over and over never get tired. If this does not make you move you butt, nothing will. This will get the party started! I do not think he ever puts out a bad CD, all his CD's are great.

Once again, Jazzy Jeff has come through with that sound. He doesn't need to prove himself in any genre because he's naturally talented and knows what good music sounds like. Hip hop to house ... I love it. Jazzy Jeff KILLS IT on this album and I can't stop listening to it! All I know is that if Jazzy Jeff showed up at the club and held it down, it would be like heaven. oh. yes.

This CD is the bomb! DJ Jazzy Jeff brings back the Philly Sound that was the foundation of house music. I really hope Jazzy Jeff continues doing his thing with house music.
There should be more African American DJs involved in house music, after all, African Americans started it, and the true essence of house music is Black Music.
There are some very talented DJs out there, but they are missing the soul, because they are losing the foundation.
Jazzy Jeff brings it back on this CD. Jazzy Jeff is originally a Hip Hop DJ from Philly, but he shows you that House and Hip Hop come from the same foundation "SOUL MUSIC".

For those who may not know, Jazzy Jeff is more than just the skinny glasses-wearin' corny sidekick from "Fresh Prince". Not only is he one of the dopest DJ's from our generation, he is an extremely skilled, talented, and humble artist. Aside from his hip hop roots coming out of Philly, he's also been a true house head behind the scenes, as many famous artists from multiple genres are. I've noticed that, including myself, the true house music appeals to those who truly appreciate the roots of hip hop, disco, funk soul and jazz, because that IS what house music is created from. In this triple CD set, Jazzy Jeff not only selects deep flavorful tracks to blend, he also employs his 20+ years of hip hop DJ experience and cuts it up too! (unlike the average house DJ). Being a DJ myself, beginning at age 12, I truly understand and appreciate the fact that Jazzy Jeff is not some cross-over artist, but more so, a true lover of music. To expand your own musical knowledge and ability is to explore all types of music.

So I definitely recommend this CD set to those who love Jazzy Jeff and/or those who love house music as well.

For all of those Househeads from the 80's who can't find any good house, here it is!!

its sad that he in the shadows of will, but together, they rock! dj jazzy jeff has some smooth beats on here, check it out its very good. i find his talent to overpass will's, but i love them together, like usual.
