Patou's jazz masterpiece,
By UFO6 (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Je Te Dis Vous (Audio CD)
This is Patricia Kaas' masterpiece - one of those recording sessions where everything seemed to click, the time was right (in context of performance, composition, and production - not Determinism,) everyone was into the groove, and an artist was captured in the peak of her form. In Kaas' case such peaks seem subject to frequent recurrence...Several comments have already been posted on "Tour de Charme" - the American version of this recording - but a few important notes need to be made: most importantly, that each of the two versions of this CD has tracks the other doesn't. If you want them all, you have to get both discs. First, this version does not include "A Saint-Lunaire," which is an indispensible part of Kaas' catalog. It's a beguiling tune woven with elegant contrapuntal background melodies and perfectly understated orchestration that linger long after the final bar. Also absent from this version is PK's brilliant cover of the Edith Piaf classic "La Vie En Rose". On the other hand, "Je Te Dis Vous" contains three tracks not found on the "Tour De Charme" version: "Hotel Normandy," which is a great and similarly indispensible jazz/pop tune; the forgettable "Ganz Und Gar" in German; and an English-language blues number, "Out Of The Rain" - which is far better than "Space In My Heart" and sould have replaced the latter on "Tour De Charme". Another point is that "Tour De Charme", the title used for the North American version of "Je Te Dis Vous", is actually the title of Kaas' second concert CD and video - both of which were out of print at last check.
