This is some of Flag's best work, but unless you are a big fan of the cover art you can get it on the First 4 Years album along with a lot of other singles and albums. Also you can buy this from SST superstore online cheaper.

Jealous Again,

Jealous Again, the EP that took over a year and three singers to complete. It was worth the wait for that time. Chavo's vocals sound best here, and the sound is better than most future recordings. It may have been better if there were more (re-recorded) tracks, though (ie: Police Story, Clocked In, Gimmie, Depression). By the way, who agrees with me that 'You Bet' is better than 'I Don't Care'?

Another Brilliant Black Flag EP,
By Erik Samson (San Fransisco, CA) - See all my reviews

Energy. Like a roaring mistle, the Flag's second EP hits you in the gut with an amazing momentum that never lets up. It is pure, raw, unabashed emotion, condensed into five 90-second punk classics. Chavo's singeng, though nothing like the brilliant drunken howl of Keith Morris, is still great, a throaty, primal shout that isn't always coherent, but is definatley pissed off. We can even hear a bit of evolution on Greg Ginn's part. Instead of just playing power chords, Ginn plays actual solos as well as delving into more complex chords and song structures. As such, Jeleous Again hints at where Black Flag was going as a band. At a lean n' mean six minutes, Jeleous again stays true to the original punk ideology of short, loud, and simple. The only thing I DON'T like about the EP is the lyrics to "white minority." Call me a bleedin' heart liberal, but I just don't like racism. I don't like the song but.... hey, that's what skip buttons are for.

Black Flag's best vocalist was Chavo!,
This review is from: Jealous Again (Audio CD)
Jealous Again has an element that was missing from the Rollins years. Chavo made it FUN. It's undisciplined rage with a very sardonic edge. This was the best that Black Flag ever managed....and it's wonderful! Yeah, there are only five short songs, but who cares. Jealous Again is a classic. In the early 80's we had Reagan, the Cold War & suburban life was horribly dull. These guys came out of a time when punk was still an attitude and a way of life. This is far superior to anything the current crop of mall punks have produced. Punk was alive from Iggy & The Stooges on through to Fang, after that it was neutered. Black Flag's Jealous Again is a quintessential platter from the height of the movement.

In my oppinion, this is by far the best album of the punk era. Every song pulses with such intense energy, you will feel your blood start to boil with the frenzy. Forget about Damaged. Chavo was 100 times the singer that Rollins was, and the sound of this album is much better. If you don't own this album, you can't call yourself punk!!

EP that (punk) rocks,
By Joker (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jealous Again (Audio CD)
Jealous Again is an EP that contains only five songs, all of which are under two minutes. Vocals are provided by Chavo Pederast. All of the songs are very short with a fast tempo. Typical punk-like songs. The best songs are Jealous Again, White Minority, No Values and You Bet We've Got Something Against You!
This is an extremely short record, even for an EP, but is nonetheless entertaining. My copy of this EP was included on my Damaged CD. It's a Damaged/Jealous Again combo. I don't think it's available in this form anymore, although I believe this EP is available on the album The First Four Years. Recommended!

After hearing Black Flag for the first time, from a friend in Venice High School, I was amazed that music could have so much energy. I was only 15 and it was 1981- the right time for a big change. I saw the flyers on the lightposts around town and wondered how I would get to ever see them. After years and years of traveling around the world, I went to see them in Syracuse NY, but couldn't get in with my under-18 friends! I ended up resorting to seeing Henry Rollins in Nuernberg Germany sometime in the late 1980's- good, but not Black Flag. I still get a lot of questions about the four boxes on my leg- a legacy of youth. This album as well as all their other albums have an honesty that is not found in mainstream hard rock- this band produced music that they KNEW wouldn't make it on the radio. My favorite album from them now is "who's got the 10 1/2?", because it has so many great songs from all the great albums- with tons of energy. I wish they had a DVD of that show. If you know who Black Flag is, you probably laugh at today's "hard" rockers. Even as arrogant as Henry Rollins is/was - he was the best singer they had. I recommend this album to anyone wanting to see what the hype is all about- or those who no longer have a way to play the original vinyl....

THE DEZ YEARS...(but chavo sings),

I HAVE OFTEN SAID THAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE ATLEAST HALF THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE LAST 45 YEARS OF ROCK N ROLL AS THE SHARK (AND OLDER BROTHERS AND FAMILY FRIENDS THAT HUMILIATED AND BEAT THE SH** OUT OF YOU ..AND ATLEAST MUCH OF THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY AND NEIGHBORHOOD AROUND YOU HATED YOU FOR NO APPARENT REASON SINCE YOU WERE FOUR OR FIVE) THEN YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A RECORD DEAL IN THE FIRST PLACE...
AND IF YER SOME JOCK COVERED IN TATTOOS WHO IS A RECENT 'CONVERT' TO THE MTV/VH-1 ALTERNA-CUM-PAP N ROLL WITH THE MENTAL COPACITY OF THE E-CHANNEL...YA KNOW..ONE OF THOSE MORONS THAT'L THREATEN TO BEAT YOU UP IF YA AIN'T PRO-GAY AND PRO-CHOICE AND YOU DON'T GOOSE STEP TO THEIR PLAN OF KINDER GENTLER WORLD MARXISM... WELL , BLACK FLAG UNDERSTOOD ALL OF THIS, THEY WERE SOMEWHAT LEFT OF CENTER TYPES ...BUT THEY MAINLY JUST WANTED TO MAKE NOISE AND ROCK OUT WITH VERY LITTLE 'TICKS' AT ALL...THIS IS A 'DEZ ERA' FLAG ALBUM...BEFORE HANK ,WITH RON (CHAVO) SINGING ON HIS ONE AND ONLY FLAG ALBUM...DEZ WOULD SOON JOIN AND PLAY SOME GUITAR TOO..AND HE WOULD SING THESE 'JEALOUS AGAIN" SONGS TOO...and that would confuse you flaggies out there indeed... AND IT IS RATHER ANGRY AND ENJOYABLE OF A LISTEN...IT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES TOO....IT HAS A SONG WITH CHUCK SINGING LEAD...AND IT HAS IT ALL...it goes by pretty quick so you gotta pay attention...the guitar of Ginn is first rate .......ORDER YOUR COPY TODAY !

Great Black flag ep,
This review is from: Jealous Again (Audio CD)
This is my favorite stage of black flag. Jelous again rocks. But unless your an intense black flag fan(like me) get first four years, because it is hard to find alot of there old stuff, and its got it all(i think, although it doesn't have the tv party ep). Buy this or first four years, they both rock. Get damaged too.
