The Jealous Sound [EP],
By "getupboy1" (n/a) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jealous Sound Ep (Audio CD)
with tracks like 1,2,3,4, and 5 (yes, that is all the songs) this i don't know how no one else has reviewed this cd! although 5 songs isn't a lot, they sure pack a punch. I like the addition of the keyboard type instrument, called a farli...i don;t no what it really is but i sounds like a keyboard, a very nice touch. knowing that the lead singer...and i think that is it, is from knapsack, one of my favorite bands... i had to get this cd! Ps. when are you guys going to play in Mass.?

I first heard these songs on Napster,

This is one of the better emo records that I had heard. I first heard of this band when they were featured on a Napster forum showcasing up-and-comming bands. I downloaded their songs (hehe) and I must say I was more than pleasantly surprised. Later I just ordered the album from Better Looking Records in LA because they didn't have it here. Let me give you the breakup of each song:1. What's Wrong is Everywhere 5/5 - A really strong intro to the album and the most rockin' song. It blows you away the first time you hear it. This is a terrific album if you like this sort of music. I do, so I hope this was helpful.

i can scarcely imagine a superior set of songs.perfect for listening while: 1-starting a new relationship. 2-ending an existing relationship. 3-driving. 4-pining over lost relationships. 5-fretting over existing relationships. 6-eating. 7-crying. 8-falling into a restless sleep. 9-self-deprecation. 10-witing online cd reviews.

I saw The Jealous Sound on tour with Death Cab For Cutie when they came through Boston. Absolutely one of my favorite CDs right now. Driving guitars and beautiful / edgy vocals. i can't wait for a full-length!! Definitely check this out if you are remotely a fan of Jimmy Eat World or Death Cab For Cutie.

I am jealous,

This EP is great. Its that simple. Great lyrics with harmony and a Knapsackish sound. Everyone says that knapsack should not have broke up, and I agree, but them doing so leads to NEW lyrics and also most important, NEW sounds with DIFFERANT bands. So all of those out there that are mad that Knapsack broke up, be happy that they decided to continue to make music. Snatch this and any other titles that they make up.

I'm so glad to see Blair from Knapsack back to his old tricks... that is: GREAT songwriting. The Jealous Sound take all that was good about Knapsack to a whole new level. Very excited to see what the future brings for this band...

Sounds stunning!!,

Short review for a short record(about 21 min). Blair Shehan, formerly of Knapsack, continues to put out incredible tunes. All five songs rock with the same ferociousness his previous band always managed to muster. In addition to crunching guitars, there are quieter moments of melodic beauty and a dab of something called a farfisa to shine things up. If you liked Knapsack, you'll like this. Can't wait to see them live. BUY IT!!

a little more polish,
By A Customer

one would think the jealous sound would start off where knapsack left off. as in a way they do (quiet life assumes an uncanny rescemblance to "cinema stare" by knapsack), the production seems a little more refined. the vocals and guitars are smoother this time, resulting in maybe a loss of intensity, but a great production nonetheless. even with these small differences, if you are a fan of knapsack, i would definately recommend it.

Wow!,

Knapsack fans, Blair Shehan has grown up with you - gone are the sometimes harsh screams, and the music is now even more intense(!). Shehan's new project, the Jealous Sound, presents a remarkable mixture of hypnotic music that succeeds because of its sophistication - its layered and sculpted in an almost hypnotic fashion, and his voice itself is still a wonderfully effective instrument - guaranteed to keep the disc in your stereo for days on end (and there's only 5 songs!) and waiting for a full-length recording.

Please Come Back!!!,
By York Roberts (Boston) - See all my reviews

Five songs. Five stars.
I don't know what the current status of The Jealous Sound is. I do know that for a while they made remarkable pop rock that had sometimes wonderful lyrics and always excellent melodies and attention to detail. "Anxious Arms" is great in this version. Outstanding. Well written. Excellent. And somehow when they recorded their (so far) only LP, they re-did it and it came out even better. "Bitter Strings" is maybe one of the most bizzarely catchy songs I can think of. Blair Sheehan's voice sounds mired with a strange lisp (which is not presnt at other times or in his work with Knapsack). "Quiet Life" is outstanding. Great use of piano. Excellent. Genrally a great record if you are interested in indie pop of a variety you probably have not previously experienced. |
