Secrets Taken To The Grave (4.5 Stars), June 6, 2009
This review is from: Jealousy, The Complete Saga (Paperback)
When The Baker's Boys leader Chaka is killed the crew is left reeling. But with Quinton being the brains and Buck the muscle of the operation they manage to stay afloat. But as they seek answers as to who killed their fearless leader they unearth some truths that just might break the crew up for good.
To run a successful crew you have to be cunning, heartless and manipulative also willing to make sacrifices for the success of the team. Chaka was so good at the art of manipulation that his mistress, Eve, had no idea that she was his mistress. But readers will find out that Eve was just a pawn in Chaka's intricate game. A game that eventually leads to his untimely demise by the most unlikely source ever.
Author Linda Brickhouse does an excellent job keeping readers guessing to the killer's identity as she reveals layer upon layer of Chaka's character. Although Chaka's death occurs in the opening chapter the secrets that he was able to take with him to his grave come back and help to make him a living character throughout the book. Not only effectively showcasing Ms. Brickhouse's character development but also helping to weave an intriguing and thoroughly entertaining tale.

Jealousy..., August 12, 2009
This review is from: Jealousy, The Complete Saga (Paperback)
Jealousy is an evil word. It can destroy relationships, cause havoc and destruction. It causes lies, dishonesty, disloyalty, and murder . All the subjects describes this novel Jealousy in a nutshell.
Chaka Dubois, was the leader of the Baker Boys. These men were friends from childhood who began selling baked goods to being successful businessman in a legal and illegal capacity. The Baker Boys owed nice cars, homes, were entrepreneurs as well. Chaka was a devoted father of two boys who had a good woman by his side, Petra. Things change when Chaka is found murdered, secrets are revealed, including the double life that Chaka had been living. During these troubled times, you would think that the Baker Boys would unite. But with revenge in the air, things are not what they seem and the enemy could possibly be standing right next to you.
Eve was evil-spirited and spoiled. She was also Chaka's mistress. Eve and Chaka had a love/ hate relationship. Chaka came and went as he pleased. Eve decided that two can play at that game and she begins an affair with the enemy of the Bakers Boys Earl Clement. Playing two against each other can only lead to problems and an all out war. When Chaka, is killed fingers are pointing in her direction. Eve enters in a deadly pact with Earl to fatten her pockets. Eve's conscious begins to weigh on her about the decisions she has made in the past and present. Did Eve just enter in a deal with the devil?
Earl Clement was the underdog. Once a good friend of the Baker Boys, Earl is now the enemy and develops a plan to destroy the Baker Boy Enterprise so he can be on top. Earl begins a relationship with Eve to get under Chaka's skin. The death of Chaka allows Earl to set forth his plan of destruction. Things change when Earl runs into circumstances that are out of his control. Dirty cops wanting handouts and falling in love could possibly lead to Earl's downfall. Is Earl in it for the long haul or will he take his business elsewhere to start a new life?
I enjoyed Jealousy. I think Linda Brickhouse did a good job of setting the scene of the Baker Boys and the rise and fall of friendships. The characters held my interest and intrigued me to want to continue the book to see what will happen. Love, sex, and drugs are always a deadly combination. Jealousy showed how friends come together during the roughest of times to avenge the death of their friend and brother. Nothing is ever easy and there is always a monkey wrench thrown in plans. The Baker Boys realize that the enemy could possibly be within their inner circle and they devise a plan, even though the consequences could be deadly.

Jealousy..., July 1, 2009
This review is from: Jealousy, The Complete Saga (Paperback)
This is a very good read if you like romance, mystery and suspense. It was slow in the beginning however it picked up in the middle. I hope there is a sequel I would like to know what happens to Eve and Buck.
