In Search of a Cow Done by Dubuffet,

I have been looking forever for a print of a particular cow done by Dubuffet. I have a biography written in German with photos of very strange sculptures, no cows. I have another exhibition (Dallas?) catalog which has absolutely NO pictures. Both came from catalogs with very little description. The bio wasn't even marked as being in German.
This one was put together for the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. IT HAS PICTURES. It also tells about Dubuffet and art in the 20th century, including a timeline. I now know how the cow paintings came to be and how many are in the series. My cow unfortunately was not exhibited at Hirshhorn. It is a textured brown cow on a green background. Have you seen it somewhere? The exhibit includes portraits and caricatures (some in the vein of "my 5-year can draw better"), cows, landscapes. There are some pearls. There are 2 persons done in butterfly wings that is quite clever. Overall, the exhibit was representative of his work. |
