Crash Course on Rousseau, Good for Adults Too,
By meow tomcat (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jean-Jacques Rousseau: Advocate of Government by Consent (Philosophers of the Enlightenment) (Library Binding)
Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712- 1778) was a philosopher and social critic who influenced the French Revolution and the Romantic Movement. This book is written for junior to senior high level students. There is large print, double spacing and ample pictures. Rousseau's personal life and theories are told sympathetically. The best criticism of Rousseau's political theory comes from the founders of the American Revolution. In a couple hours of concentrated reading, an adult can learn enough about Rousseau and his major works (The Social Contract and Discourses, Emile) to bluff your way in an intellectual discussion. Most people will not want to know more than contained here, however, it is a great start for the political science major.
