Jean Tinguely Untangled,
By Michael Godfrey (Charlotte, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jean Tinguely (Art) (Hardcover)
Heidi Violand-Hobi's monograph on the artist, Jean Tinguely, is a perfect introduction for those unfamiliar with the scope of his work, and a good reference for those who know his work well. It is an easier read than Pontus Hulten's important "A Magic Stronger Than Death," and continues the discussion of Tinguely's work beyond the mid-1980s where Hulten's book ends. Early photographs of Tinguely's window displays are especially pertinent as are the personal photographs throughout. Prestel knows how to put together an impressive art book. Most of the major works are covered, but there is room for additional scholarship on this important international artist who goes largely unappreciated in America.
