An amazing book that belongs in everybody's collection!,
By Colin S Lawson (Palmyra, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jeanloup Sieff, 1950-1990: 40 Years of Photography (Hardcover)
This book is full of painfully beautiful images- I hated to turn the page, but couldn't wait to see what was next! This is definitely one that will have my complete attention time, and time, and time again. As a photographer, it touches me and speaks to me in a way very few books ever have. It's definitely a good source of inspirational "soul food" before I go out on an assignment. I still can't believe the price- it must be a misprint! At twice the price it is still a bargain.

This book is a must-have if you like B&W-photography,

This review is from: Jeanloup Sieff, 1950-1990: 40 Years of Photography (Hardcover)
I enjoyed (almost) every page. Not only are the introductions to each decade very funny to read - time also "passes like rain" when walking through the large collection of pictures. Jeanloup writes that he felt sad when choosing the pictures for this book - sad, that he can't turn back time. And you will feel sad too. You will feel sad not te be able to turn back time. You will feel sad not to be able to have been there and take the pictures yourself. This book is the cheapest kind of time-travel you can by - open the book and travel back to more peaceful times. Get old again and enjoy how the artists way of taking pictures changes.

This is an excellent book showing Sieff's Balck&White photographic work from the 1950's to 1980's. (287 pages worth)If Mr. Sieff has picked all the plates himself for this book then he has chosen very well because it shows his development as an artist over several deacdes. The only pictures I would have personally edited from the book were the four images from the Catacombs in Palermo 1982, they belong in another type of photo book. The photo's vary from the abstract to landscape and sum up into a pleasant blend of images. The book itself is a great example of quality bookprinting and the page size is just right to give good area for the photos. To Mr. Sieff I would like to say; "Please go ahead with the planned book; Homage to a 127 bottoms!"

A stunning collection of this master's greatest pictures...,

Where do I begin? This book is so full - full of talent and inspiration, full of insights and facts, but most importantly it is full of beautiful, visually intoxicating photographs. Gee, can you tell I liked it? From beginning to end it remains consitently captivating, whether the subject is lanscapes, shadows, bottoms (which he professes his affection for more than once), or fashion, his pictures take you with him through his decades of experience from budding young photographer to a true master. The price for this huge volume of work is so incredibly low that I highly recommend buying it, it's more than worth it.

A Masterpiece!,
This review is from: Jeanloup Sieff, 1950-1990: 40 Years of Photography (Hardcover)
This book is so full of talent and inspiration, full of insights and facts, but most importantly it is full of beautiful, visually intoxicating photographs. It's big, oversized, almost 300 pages, and impeccably designed and printed. Throughout Jeanloup Sieff retraces in word and photos the span of his amazing 40 year career. It's divided into four chapters, 50's to 90's and brings in many previously unpublished photographs. His art is strong testimony to his lifelong quest for art and beauty through fine art black & white photography.

Unfortunatly, I have not had the privilege to view this book, but about another from Jeanloup Sieff which I was fortunate enough to recieve as a birthday gift. This softcover A4 format is unfortunately not among your choices. The subject, "BOUDOIRPHOTOGRAPHY". In my opinion, a masterpiece of erotiek sensuality. Unfortunately, I have lost this collection of works and so wish to find the same back again. When operating my business as a Photographer in Holland (now retired) I had always tried to simulate his work to no avail. I With highest respect to Jeanloup Sieff Regards

When I bought this book, I though that is another good monography of some french photographer, but nothing special. After 5-10 pages I realised, that this book is no ordinary, but express everything becouse I prefered photography itself: The timeless moments, game between light and dark in soft impressive shadows, and the most important: extreme simplicity of composition, wich is made Jeanloup a master. I was dissapointed only at the end of book, when the autor include some average photos, which takes a delicate shadow. But probably is difficult to select almoust 300 photos and stayed impartial.
