5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Happy......, May 1, 2008

This review is from: Jebo Aquarium Fish Tank Bio-chemical Filter 838 4 Ply (Misc.)
I have been using these filters from Jebo/Odyssea for the last several years. I have 6 of the 4 ply and 2 of the 5 ply. They are extremely quiet and reliable. I have purchased -> all <- of these for the approximate cost of 2 of the "Big German E" brand.
On the first one I purchased, I had to replace one of the shut off valves. They have since upgraded to a better valve construction/composition. On occasion, you might get an air bubble that will cause some cavitation rattle on the impeller which is easily purged pushing down the big prime button. Other than that, I have not had any problems at all. To me, they are one of the easiest to maintain and clean. Turn off the valves, disconnect the hoses from the unit and carry the entire closed canister to the sink. Clean it, replace the intake hose, open the intake, fill most of the way. Attach the outflow and open it. You don't even have to fuss with re-priming anything. You can load the baskets as you wish, with the standard stack or use a specialty mix depending on what your tank requires. What more can you ask from a filter besides -- cost, reliability, flexibility? For this kind of money, you can easily afford to double up on filters with a large tank or have a dry spare to swap.

Update Aug. 2010....

Since this review, I have had one stop completely. The mag motor just seemed to give up. I have also had to replace 2 "O ring" gaskets st the top where it mates the canister to stop minor leaks. Other than normal media replacement, and the noted "blips", they are all still functioning well.
