Most people know the Goos for hits like Name, Iris, Or Slide. But the truth is that they are also a kick @$$ rock band! This album is a must have if you a huge of Robby Takac (who sings 12 out of the 14 songs on this record), but you still want a couple songs by John Rzeznik. Plus as a bonus you get a cover of "Down On The Corner" sang by Lance Diamond, a great singer who performs locally in Buffalo, New York. This Album is full of great songs like "Out Of Sight", "Up Yours", "Road To Salinas", and the acoustic funny song, "James Dean". So for anyone who loves good hard rock, pick this album up!

Sometimes in the course of music history, you will look at a band's last few releases, and scratch your head at how they wound up there. For instance, Dizzy Up the Girl is very poppy, radio-friendly, and devoid of their original style. The 80's certainly bred a lot of punk acts, but this is one that somehow slipped through the cracks. Blending punk rock with uptempo power pop, they were hard to resist. This album features raw vocals from then lead vocalist/bassist Robby Takac, off-key guitar solos from Johnny Rzeznick, but overall, a sense of humor, which is why this is an easy favorite of mine.

Musically, this album is a tad sloppy, but the energetic feel of the album and urgent songwriting is enough to make up for it. While mostly grounded in upbeat punk, this album does feature a few power pop nuggets, an acoustic ballad (the silly "James Dean"), a few covers (the awful cover of "Down on the Corner" and the complete makeover of the Stones "Gimme Shelter"), and even an instrumental ("7th of Last Month or Iggy the Cat Gets a Bath"). And all in all, the Dolls pull it off well, using well-crafted anthemic punk songs that entice and excite, while writing smile-inducing lyrics. Whether it be the punchy and biting guitar riffs from Johnny, the raspy high-school boy vocals of Takac, the angry yet humorous juvenile lyrics, or the occasional "huh?" track ("James Dean", an acoustic ballad sung by John about...well...wanting to be James Dean), you may just find yourself wanting to sing along.

This is a punk classic. I recall in my college radio station days in Rochester being stunned hearing this album for the first time. Never has an album been so clever, melodic & yet so pummelling simultaneously. Just the ticket for anyone who remembers when the Dolls had their gear stolen, or when Rob & John used to run around barefoot on stage & throw troll toys at the crowd.

If you are looking for songs like Name and Slide than this is not the Goo CD for you. If you are looking for a more raw and edgy sound that is loud and fast and fun then here is your purchase. I have said in reviews of their more recent work that the Goos DO NOT make bad music. This is no exception to that statement but be ready for fun hard and fast ROCK!!

I like this album its good quality punk rock but this band screwed themselves when they got involved with MTV.

This album is a must-have for an avid Goo Goo Dolls fan. I absolutely love the album, but if you aren't very interested in the Goo Goo Dolls, you probably won't appreciate this album. the songs are fun and bring a smile to my face every time I play them. This album definitely shows the growth of the GGDs from then to now. This album rocks!

Used to the ballads and full-on orchestra backing up the Goos on their latest albums? You won't find it here. The Jed CD is gritty and raw, and any who are willing to go along for the ride will have a hell of a time. While it isn't 'punk rock', it sure shows where the Goos first came from. I recommend this disc to fans of bassist Robby Takac, for his creative genius shows up quite often here.

This is a great album from the band's early days as a punk/power pop band, before they became poster boys for teenyboppers around the world on Dizzy Up the Girl (although that wasn't really their fault). Check out "Up Yours" and "Outta Sight" for pure energy, anger, and aggression.
