Book Description

July 8, 1998
"Go out and work hard and just take it one step at a time."

He is a living legend, an athlete whodominates his sport as few otherscan. With his rainbow-colored No.24 Dupont Chevrolet Monte Carlo, JeffGordon has accomplished what no

man before him could. In 1997, he wonhis second NASCAR Winston Cup

Series championship...the Daytona

500...the Coca-Cola 600...the Southern500...The Winston ...the Busch Clash. And he became only the second driver

to win NASCAR's toughest prize: The

Winston Million.

This stunning photographic portrait captures that extraordinary year--from the opening race at Daytona to theAtlanta Motor Speedway where the title became his-- and offers an intimate glimpse of the man behind the wheel himself. You'll discover what he really thinks about life on and off the track including: his family

NASCAR racing

the people who have helped shape his career

his spirituality

his fans

being a role model

the Rainbow Warriors

and much more.

Honest and straightforward, Jeff shares his triumphs and his failures, what it takes to be the best and what the future may hold. Here is a rare look at an amazing champion on the road to glory.

"Don't ever quit. Don't ever stop fighting. It's not over 'til it's over."

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Jeff Gordon has taken a dominant position in the sport of NASCAR racing by rising farther and faster than anyone else before him. The rapidity and seeming ease of his remarkable ascent have made him one of the most avidly followed and actively reviled racers on the NASCAR circuit. There's no denying the man can drive a car, but just who is this guy with the trendy shades and dazzling movie-star smile? We may never know. With the help of motorsports writer Bob Zeller, Gordon has put together a handsome coffee-table chronicle of his remarkable 1997 championship season that somehow avoids saying much of anything about himself. Jammed full of wonderful photography, the book will shine like a trophy on any race fan's shelf, but the text is strewn with the wreckage of hollow platitudes such as, "I've had a lot of success, but I feel like I'm still down-to-earth." To be fair, Gordon is a racecar driver, not a writer, so it's Zeller who should have thrown up the yellow flags before racing off to the printer. As it stands, the book is a remarkable mirror of Gordon's own image--nice to look at, but running low on personality. --George Laney --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

"Now Gordon himself, with veteran Winston Cup writer Bob Zeller, has put together an intimate, yet fascinating portrait of his 1997 championship season. More than a story, it is a photographic treasure..." LA Times
