Nothing Like It!,
By Luc Andre Mandeville (Montreal, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jeff Hawke: The Ambassadors (Hardcover)
I have read all of the Jeff Hawke stories translated in French and was hoping to be able to read them in their original language some day! Most sadly Jeff Hawke has not been in print in English. Finally, someone, Titan Books, has done something about it by publishing two books! This series is truly priceless as it combines very intelligent 'hard SF' storytelling - including touches of typical British humor - all told in superb black and white, plus many shades of grey, art. I remain in awe as to what can be done with such a supposedly limited medium: interesting characters which are always recognizable with lively expressions, picturesque and creative landscapes of Earth's near future as well as alien civilizations with intriguing aliens, credible machinery and gadgets, all rendered through impeccable pencilling and inking. Often the theme is an aspect or another of First Contact with alien civilizations, as well as time travel, strange scientific inventions and magic is sometimes involved. Indeed, the smart, verging on brilliant, authors Sydney Jordan and Willie Paterson have an incredible imagination and they are truly mischievous storytelling virtuosi! There are many more Jeff Hawke stories to be published and I eagerly look forward to read all of them in English. I am formally asking Titan Books to systematically publish the entire series as I promise to buy them all! And recommend them to friends! To all real SF fans everywhere: read this!
