What a roller coaster ride of self discovery! I couldn't put this book down, for it's sheer honesty! Lynette's writing style is so different and poetic it took me a little getting used to for the first few pages but after that I was hooked. A must read for anyone who loves to laugh (and I mean LAUGH!) and cry at the same time. I highly highly highly reccomend it!

I think the question Amazon asked me was how did the book meet my expectations? Well, that's kind of a hard question to answer because I don't know if I had any expectations, or if I did, I don't remember what they were. I ordered the book back in February, KNOWING I needed to read it, after the author Lynette Louise had mentioned it in an episode of her podcast A New Spin on Autism: Answers! And so, me, knowing just a little bit about some of what this book is about, knowing that a certain part of my life (yeah, that's right, the sexual part) was a horrible confused mess that I didn't know what to do with, decided, I NEED TO READ THIS, searched for it, found it, bought it, and began to read. I don't really remember, but for the sake of writing a good story for this review I find myself writing, I'm going to say that I think I was hoping that reading about sex would help me to un-confuse that part of myself. That, it did. And, as it turns out, there is so much more to it than that! This book, far exceeded, any expectations I ever could have imagined having of it! My gut was right, I definitely did need to read Jeff! It changed my life! For the very VERY Good! In more ways than I could have conceived of! Through living my own journey as I followed Lynette through hers through the pages of this book, a "happening" has happened to me! And even though I don't need to say "thank you", I do like the way I am smiling outside and inside while thinking and writing and mouthing the words, so, Thank you, Jeff! Thank you, Lynette! I'm so glad I listened to myself when myself said I needed to read this book! What a blessing!

Lynette Louise's "Jeff" is a journey through the mind of the author, often free associating, poetic, laden with multifaceted meanings created by the use of metaphor, puns and the unorthodox use of commas. Lynette Louise makes fascinating connections in the playground of her mind, entertaining, revealing, sharing pain and humiliation along with the joy and exhilaration of her personal discoveries. Lynette charts her journey of breaking repeated patterns in her life and taking control of her destiny. I met the author last summer and read the book out of a desire to understand the incredible energy and determination behind the woman who took on so many challenges and is filled with love of life, humor and playfulness. The book is truly a reflection of the author: intelligent, out there, brave, witty and unique.

Honesty, revelations, sex, humor, comedy and life all set to a poetic music that opens the reader up for discovering an entirely new part of themselves. I enjoyed this book in slow motion, pausing often to swallow the ideas and truths that are rarely shared with such candor. The author has eight kids, four of them are autistic, two of them are teenage girls that were kicked out of their homes, and two are biologically hers. She has no money or support. Only love for these kids and by the end of the book; herself. I can't possibly express how grateful I am to Lynette Louise for her willingness to share her life, even the darker less acceptable parts. Maybe especially for sharing those parts. An understanding that there are so many parts to all of us, that we are all just struggling to discover our place, to find love and ultimately to feel like we are somehow important. I came away from this book with the feeling that discovering my own importance is fully in my control and that when I do discover it; I will become it. I laughed and cried and learned to love myself. This is an amazing book!
