5.0 out of 5 stars Good buy, not jsut for Jeff Smith fans, December 3, 2008

This review is from: Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond (Hardcover)
So Jeff Smith created the "Bone" and "Rasl" comic book series' and also a brilliant retelling of "Shazam!"

This book is a guide from a display of his comic strips, books, and other cartoons that was held in honour of his amazing amazing stroytelling abilities. This was a show of respect for an art form that is so overlooked in today's culture.

The book has interviews and essays writting by/with Jeff and other respected writers such as Neil Gaiman.

The beauty of this book though is not just in the artwork and early sketches, but to see the way others write about Jeff's work, to see that there are people that still not only enjoy the funnies pages, but respect them as well.

Also in here is a lot of Jeff's influences: Peanuts, Pogo, and others. It is good to read.

I recommend this book to Jeff Smith fans, but also to fans of cartooning and animation as well. There is a lot of great commentary on his artwork, how to really express certain emotions in panels, and other assorted tidbits.

Good binding, nice hardcover. A great buy for the price!

5.0 out of 5 stars The extensive detail assures a lasting place in any art or graphic arts collection, October 13, 2008
This review is from: Jeff Smith: Bone and Beyond (Hardcover)
Jeff Smith's BONE comics represent the success of an independent, self-published series which has enjoyed world fame and been translated into sixteen languages: BONE AND BEYOND celebrates this success with the Wexner Center, who put together an exhibition reflected in this accompanying book. Extensive conversations with the creator of Bone accompany color and black and white images from the exhibition. The extensive detail assures a lasting place in any art or graphic arts collection.
