5.0 out of 5 stars The Desert Island Disc of All Time, October 18, 2002
By

This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
This record has some of the best lyrics I've ever heard. I've recommended this album to so many people in the past ten years, it's ridicuolus. No one I know who has listened to this CD has failed to be blown away and deeply moved. All hype aside, Jeffrey takes you to another place and this album is nothing short of breathtaking. This record still gives me goosebumps (not to be a freak, but tears sometimes too)and i've listened to it a million times.

Tracks like "Scares Me More" and "A Dark Love Song" can either break your heart or fill your heart, depending on your mood.

This guy is one of the most underrated songwriters of the past 20 years. While his subsequent records were a little spotty (although there are very high points on each), this CD just nails it.

You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, soulful, talented, February 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
Jeffrey Gaines' first album is his best -- he retains his simple, "rough" sound. Without excessive instrumentation and production, this album is truly soulful and deep, yet not depressing. I only wish he would "hit it big"...he truly deserves recognition, but I'm afraid it won't come because he doesn't seem the type to sell out to get it...and there just aren't enough people out there looking for truly talented musicians such as him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeffrey is a wonderful singer/songwriter, August 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
I have been seeing Jeffrey Gaines perform for about 10 years now. I've got all three CD's. The first time I saw Jeff I was blown away by the lyrics of his song. He is one of the best writers I've come across. His songs are real and deep. I highly recommend all three CDs and a live show by this guy--hurry do it now before he makes it to the big time cause I think he's gonna do it with this record.

5.0 out of 5 stars spiritual lyricism,"Beatle-like" rhythym,versatile singin, July 7, 1998
This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
jeffrey gaines is on the verge of greatness and would be in the mainstream of pop culture if he wrote "bubble-gum" lyrics. his music portrays "Beatle-like" simplicity, yet is well-versed and versatile enough to fit the mood. he can be quietly acoustic, but he can also pick-up the beat a little and motivate you to drive faster than the limit. his guitar playing is crisp and timely, and his voice is smooth and versatile... the best thing about gaines' music though is the meaning and emotion he puts into every song and every lyric. his songs especially have bold undertones to the consciousness of men, who, in general, are afraid to express the things gaines' songs open us up to...most of the songs, on his debut c.d., are about fear, failure, and insecurity, and "most men" aren't comfortable with admitting they have such feelings...but he's balanced with the "hero in me" that we all possess as the master of our lives. gaines' music seems to be geared for men who live meaningful inner lives, and it could be very useful for women who want to have a better understanding of the psyches of men (if that's possible); plus to top it off, it's very enjoyable to listen to...some of the songs are danceable, some are good to drive to, and all are good singing tunes...and the lyrics have enough depth, that as you listen to them over time, the meanings seem to grow or change.

5.0 out of 5 stars What it is...is a good album, January 30, 2005

This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
I am not really familiar with Jeffrey Gaines music other than the beautiful ballad "Hero in Me". I first heard the song over a decade ago on a local radio station and immediately bedame enamoured with the gorgeous ballad. I recently took out the album that the song was on (Jeffrey Gaine's self-titled album) from the library this weekend because I hadn't heard the song in years. Not only did I fall in love with the song all over again but also with Jeffrey Gaine's deeply personal lyrics and beautiful acoustic melodies. His music is a mix of folk, pop, and rock. His ballads such as "Love Disappears" "Sorry the Very Next Day" really stood out for me. His songs are songs that anyone could relate to. There was not one song on this album I did not like. The lyrics were all heartfelt and sincere and the melodies infectious. Great album.

5.0 out of 5 stars music to identify with, February 4, 2001

BRR (Boston, Mass. USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
Jeff Gaines is one of the most talented songwriters of our time. His songs are written in a way that no one can listen through a entire CD a not be touched by his music in a unique way. His debut self titled record is a perfect example of this. Drawing from personal experience, he is able to write music that is truly pensive and inspiring for all who listen. These qualities can be seen throughout the record from the beautifly written Hero in Me to the contemplative Headmasters of Mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Recognition, December 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
I also have been watching Jeffrey perform for years, and being a native of his hometown area, I have been disappointed that he has not gotten more recognition. His 2nd CD was highly nixed, for reason I'll never know, at some point we all hit low points in our life, this just proves that none of us are exempt! Jeffrey music is profound, soul-wrentching, enlighting, but most of all satisfying to the heart. Listen to all three CD's, and feel the change of one performers life!

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFULLY UNIQUE, May 27, 2000
This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
At our local library I stumbled across this unbelievably excellent CD, I couldnt believe that this talented Artist isnt more well known! , he should be, given the questionable talents already out there!

His vocals are wonderful and unique, with a depth of feeling that penetrates you as you listen with enjoyment wondering how this rare gem has escaped notice.

I would love to own my own copy, and have searched aimlessly in countless music stores to find it, always ending in failure, if I wasnt so paranoid about shopping over the internet I wouldnt hesitate in getting a copy from Amazon! Highly recommended, ALL the songs are worthwhile ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars best of the best, December 3, 1999
This review is from: Jeffrey Gaines (Audio CD)
The music on this cd, while not complicated in musical nature, is breath-taking. It's simplicity allows for the listener to enjoy the vocals of Gaines as well as the thought provoking lyrics of the songs. Each and every song on this album is terrific and can be listened to over and over again. I hope to see and hear much more from this artist, for he is surely one of the best.
