3.0 out of 5 stars Dr. Jekyll & Mistress Hyde
This DVD arrived in good order. Shipping and handling was in less than a week. Ok DVD, but the storyline could use a bit more tweaking, other than just leaving the plot hanging in the balance.

Seduction Cinema has come a long way since its early days, thanks largely to the contributions of one gorgeous starlet named Misty Mundae. By the time this film was released in 2003, production values, cinematography, and writing had improved dramatically from the oftentimes utterly ridiculous film spoofs of past years. At the same time, though, the company had not forgotten its mission; Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde offers ample proof that these guys are still putting the Seduction in Seduction Cinema - and there is no one more seductive than Misty Mundae.

Julian Wells plays Jackie Stevenson, a straight-laced psychologist making waves with her theory about the dual nature of the female psyche; it's half "pure" and half "lustful," she argues. Her disparaging husband is having none of it because, if his wife has a lustful side, he hasn't seen it. He, of course, is lustful enough for the both of them - just ask the maid (Ruby DeLarocca). Dr. Stevenson has been hard at work developing a formula that will separate the two conflicting halves and somehow free women from their own inner shackles. When she tries the drug on one of her severely depressed patients, the poor girl winds up in a room with padded walls (but not before ravaging the good doctor in a nymphomaniacal fit). Naturally, Jackie then decides to experiment on herself, but with a smaller dosage. Now we see her repressed lustful side come out in the form of the wanton "Heidi." She goes prowling the streets, where she meets Dawn, a young lady with an uncanny resemblance to her first patient - probably because Misty Mundae plays both roles here. Dawn is a young lady of the night - aw heck, she's a hooker - who proves quite capable of satisfying Heidi's newly awakened needs. The two strike up a relationship (which does not preclude Dawn from bring other young ladies home with her), Jackie becomes more addicted to the serum and the carnal pleasures it brings to her through her alter-ego Heidi, and a few other things happen by way of filler between numerous hot and steamy encounters. There is a bit of a surprise at the end, but I think the filmmakers went out a little too far on a limb on this one.

You have to expect a few story problems and weaknesses from Seduction Cinema films, but these problems are more than made up for in terms of what I shall cleverly label "the good stuff." Not only are there more erotic scenes than usual in this Seduction Cinema film, the scenes are all well done and far from disappointing. You definitely get more Misty for your money in this movie than in most of her other ones. You also get Misty in a schoolgirl outfit - that, my friends, is worth the price of admission.

As usual, Seduction Cinema has thrown in a number of nice bonus features as well. There is a behind-the-scenes feature of over an hour and fifteen minutes that basically follows Misty and Ruby DeLarocca all the way from New Jersey to L.A. for the complete filming of the movie. Unless you're a Misty fan, you might find some of this video boring, as the girls don't do a whole lot, but highlights include a trip to the Walk of Fame and Misty spontaneously performing the rap part of Blondie's Rapture. After a short interview with Misty and Julian Wells, you can check out a whole slew of trailers: eight Retro-Seduction Cinema releases (including Misty's remakes of Lustful Addiction and Roxanna) and eight Seduction Cinema titles starring Miss Mundae. You'll notice there is a second disc included in the package; this is actually a compact disc containing the music from the film - I wasn't particularly enamored with the soundtrack, but maybe some out there will enjoy it enough to want to listen to it on its own.

Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde is a decent effort in its own right, but there is no doubt that Misty Mundae makes this film something special. If you are a Misty fan, you will definitely want to add this DVD to your Misty collection - trust me on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best I've seen so far, October 8, 2005
This review is from: Dr. Jekyll & Mistress Hyde (DVD)
I have seen several Seduction Cinema movies. This one, Gladiator Eroticvs, and Lord Of The G-Strings and by far this is the best one. For once, seduction cinema has included the sounds of the sex in the movie. Although I can tell that they were dubbed.

The best way for me to descibe this movie to you is that it is a lesbien movie with a surprise twist of a conclusion, and how often do you find that in porn?

I really like the extras on this disc because it gets into the terrible lifestyle of the people involved in the movie. At one point the director is talking about what he did last night. He says "we injected some things, we smoked some things...".

If any one with Seduction Cinema ever reads this, I would like to see a fair-skined, dark haied Asian woman in your future movies. You had one with blond hair in this movie. Or maybe some Internet porn stars (Mason Storm or Dana Hayes) in your future productions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A steamy, erotic dream., January 19, 2004
By
This review is from: Dr. Jekyll & Mistress Hyde (DVD)
At the insistence of her patient, a repressed girl named Martine Flatstone (played by Misty Mundae), Dr. Jackie Stevenson (Julian Wells) injects her with an experimental drug meant to unleash the inner psyche. The girl professes love to her kindly doctor, then wigs out and shows her just what kind of love she is talking about. Dr. Jackie doesn't put up much a fight for long, but Martine's mind is blown beyond repair by too much of a good thing. Feeling both guilty and aroused, Dr. Jackie decides to experiment on herself. Her inner psyche, a cauldron of lesbian lust she names Heidi, comes to the surface and immediately heads out on the prowl. She finds a young hooker named Dawn (also played by Mundae) who reminds her of Martine and the two begin a torrid affair that may or may not be what it appears to be.

Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde is a nicely done little dream of a movie. As the story progesses one does not know how much is real or illusion. Is Dawn really Martine, or does she exist at all? The line is further blurred when Dawn unknowningly becomes a patient of Dr. Jackie. When it comes to performing as their dual characters, Wells is a tad better than Mundae in the acting department, but the two work well together and there is genuine heat generated in their pairing up under different character personas. Watching the movie a second time, I noticed that Jackie and Dawn's dialog in regards to their first time experiences are practically identical, and what was with that red suitcase? First we see Jackie carrying it, then Dawn has it in the very next scene. It is clear that the director and screenwriter wanted this to be more than just a toss away erotic comedy (it is played straight, an early scene involving a maid appearing to be the only attempt at comedy) and it is that noble intention that makes Dr. Jekyll and Mistress Hyde above average. Fans of Jean Rollin and his ilk should find something to enjoy here.

The Collector's Edition disc features the film's soundtrack, which isn't that bad, and a behind the scenes documentary that is as long as the movie itself is included. Those interested in how a movie like this is made, and what the people who make a movie like this are really like, will appreciate it. This is a welcome addition to my library.

4.0 out of 5 stars a new direction for seduction cinema, August 6, 2003

I've seen just about every original Seduction Cinema film ever produced, and I love what they do. This one was a collectors item (only 20,000 were made) so I saw no reason not to snap it up. This film doesn't look like or play like any of the other SC films I've seen. First off, do not expect it to be similar to MISTRESS FRANKENSTEIN. It doesn't star Darian Caine as a stuffy scientist who drinks her own secret formula, turning into a wild-haired nympho. Nope, it's a 180-degree turn from the formula that made SC famous, but it still scores high on many levels. DR. JEKYLL & MISTRESS HYDE takes much influence from the David Lynch film MULHOLLAND DRIVE, giving a fresh and interesting spin to a classic tale. The lighting is exceptional, the acting is all first-rate, and the music is incredible (the latter is included on a 2nd disc). This movie is serious in tone, but doesn't fall flat as a result. It has definite mood, and could play very well on late-night cable. My only problem with this film relates to the dubbing of the actors' dialogue, which goes out of sync several times and disappears entirely on occasion. All in all, though, it's some well-made erotica with surreal elements and top-notch production value for a shot-on-video release. Certainly another achievement for SC, and another stellar acting turn from Misty Mundae. The 2-disc collectors set is a numbered "Limited Edition". Disc 1 contains the movie and lengthy documentary about the making of the film, featuring cast interviews and footage of Misty Mundae & Ruby LaRocca shopping in Los Angeles. Disc 2 is a CD of the neo-noir, jazz-infected score of the film, performed by Don Mike. Its 18 tracks equal over an hour of listening pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars A-quality enjoyment from a B-movie, March 4, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Dr. Jekyll & Mistress Hyde (DVD)
I wasn't aware about the world of seduction cinema, or misty mundae until recently. After getting this DVD i understood just why there's such a great cult following. I bought the so called limited edition copy out of 20,000. Seeing this I wasn't sure if I should open it, or keeped it wrap and auction it on e-bay. Well I did decide to pop the dvd into the player. I got caught in the dvd extras that I almost forgot to watch the actual movie.
Truth is mainstream hollywood movies don't provide this kind of entertainment.Watching this movie is like reading a sci-fi comicbook. It just has that way of being so animated. There's a story that actually shadows the softcore-sex scenes.
I enjoyed the dramatic acting of Julian Wells, and Misty Mundae.
Of course they aren't too bad on the eyes.

My favorite thing about the DVD is the behind the scenes documentary. I enjoyed the fact that it's based more on the actors day-by-day adventures, and mis-adventures when filming this movie.

There's also the soundtrack to this movie. I thought it was decent. I noticed that some or all the music was made on the Acid
music making program. The highlight track is the techno remix of "something's come over you".

I hope to come across more of seductive cinemas releases soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars seduction cimema's classic, May 1, 2011

This DVD is a must have by every Misty Mundae fan. First, Misty will never look as good as she does in this movie, albeit the extra 10 lbs she carries. The story takes a bit of imagination but it is maybe the best script she has done so far. Others have described the basic story line so I will skip that, but this gives us something that we never will have again: a 20 something girl at her physical perfection. The camera work is excellent as is the sound track. Misty has been seen lately on Lingerie, a soft porn late night drama but the glow is gone. I am afraid that we might not see much of her again.

This is why this film is so good. It may be the best film she has done overall as it has none of the depressing story lines of Sinful or Chantal, good efforts but depressing and screen plays that are full of holes. If watched closely this is a very clever story line. You must watch it to the very end to get the full effect which is not handed to you, you must think about it. The winner in the end is Misty, but she is not on the screen. The look on Paula, the maid's face, when she realized she still needs the sex drug and Misty does not is priceless.

Also I must give credit to the character parts turned in by Seduction Cinemas best cast. They all look great but special mention must be given to Julian Wells, who does a stellar job as the psychologist. She is always good but she really shines in this. Andrea Davis and Ruby DelaRocca are adequate but the movie is carried by brilliant performances by Julian and Misty. IMO this is Misty's best acting job. She delivers her part without the torturing script that caused her to break down while filming Chantel.

The sex scenes are somewhat hot for Seduction but basically tame. There are a lot of them so those who want to see Misty with a variety of women will not be disappointed. The scene where Misty playing a hooker is linked up with Julian Wells is pretty hot but requires some imagination.

The off camera stuff shows Misty and Ruby living like a couple of young girls do. They seem to overcome the lack of comfort and have fun as time permits. Watching them dance and rap is a feel good moment that makes the production worth far more than just the movie. We realize that she is just a kid, not a movie star. And she is very loveable in these shots, with her glasses, her funny looking tennis shoes and her big sheepskin coat.

If you have read the classic, you might notice a slight deviation in plot. I am confused by the second disc. Does anyone really want the soundtrack to this movie? If your idea of Jekyll and Hyde is a lot of girl on girl action, then this movie is for you. Misty always seems to wear the same outfit in all of her movies: a Catholic school girl uniform with stockings and heels. Not that it looks bad on her, but can we move on to another fantasy? It was hard to judge the acting because there was little dialogue. In the trailers I was surprised to discover there was an actual script for the movie. Imagine getting paid for writing this. Wouldn't you feel guilty cashing the check? Unless of course they slipped some over hormone teen a Jackson for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect Citizen Kane!, March 8, 2008

If you are the type who only likes to watch highbrow dramas or Hollywood blockbusters full of CGI effects, this movie is not for you. Now, on the other hand, if you like exploitation, better yet - sexploitation, then this should be right up you alley.

This a Seduction Cinema film. They do one thing, and they do it well. They create sofe-core, lesbian romps with the male viewer in mind. So, know what you're getting into in advance.

This is not an erotic thriller in the vain of 9 1/2 Weeks or Two Moon Junction. Those films have much more plot and much less nudity than this film.

Now, having said all of that you're probably asking yourself why I gave the film 5 stars. Well, I got exactly what I expected out of the film. Actually, it exceeded my expectations.

This is the first Seduction Cinema film I have watched. I know that they are mainly known for humorous spoofs of big blockbusters. This, however, is played straight. Yes, some of the acting leaves a lot to be desired, but the camera work and lighting are very good for a film shot on video. This along with women in various compromising positions and a few unexpected turns along the way made for a very enjoyable viewing experience. I will definitely take a look at more of their movies in the future.

This package also includes a CD with the film's soundtrack. Good luck getting the catchy tune "Somethings Come Over You" out of your head.

Highly reccommended for those who enjoy this kind of flick. Come on, you know who you are.
