About the Brand

In 1897, Pearl Wait adapted an 1845 patent for a gelatin dessert, and his wife, May Davis Wait, named the new product Jell-O brand gelatin. Decades later, in 1899, Orator Francis Woodward bought the rights to Jell-O brand gelatin from Mr. Wait for $450. Three years later, Woodward launched the advertising campaign, "America's most favorite Dessert" for Jell-O. Today, Jell-O, which now includes pudding and other desserts, is a member of the Kraft family of brands.

About Kraft
Kraft has come a long way since 29-year-old James L. Kraft moved from Ontario, canada, to Chicago and started selling cheese to grocers from a horse-drawn wagon. In fact, the story dates back further, since for more than 200 years, many companies have united to make Kraft Foods what it is today. It started before the Revolution--in Dorchester, Massachusetts--when, in 1765, a local physician, Dr. James Baker, went into partnership with a young Irish chocolate-maker, John Hannon. It was America's first chocolate mill, where, in 1780, they made a blend of quality chocolate called Baker's chocolate. Baker's chocolate was the first of a long list of companies that have joined Kraft Foods, Inc., in making good food for busy families.

In 1988, Kraft became part of Philip Morris Companies Inc., and a year later Philip Morris Companies combined Kraft and General Foods Corp. to form Kraft General Foods, the largest food company in the U.S. Some of the most popular and well-known brands in the Kraft family include Maxwell House, Yuban, Oscar Mayer, Breakstone, Grape-Nuts, Jell-O, Post, Minute Rice, Cheez Whiz, Cracker Barrell, Tang, Cool Whip, Shake 'N Bake, Stove Top, General Foods International Coffees, and many, many more.

It tastes so much better than instant puddings, but without all the sugar found in regular cook and serve puddings.
Jay D. Weaver
I've found it nearly impossible to find this product in grocery stores.

This by far the best pudding mix, you don't see this on the store shelves.. Everyone seems to just buy milk chocolate pudding.. and I guess most don't like to cook pudding on the stove, it is best when pudding is cooked cooked.. Instant pudding does not equal this.. Carl

There's just something about Tapioca Pudding that makes me happy. Definitely my favorite. Until recently, I would just buy the Kozy Shack pre packaged tapioca pudding from the grocery in the refrigerated section; however, it has risen in price to the point where it is much more economical to make the cook and serve Jell-o brand, which tastes fresher and can be served warm or cold (or frozen in an ice tray similar to pudding pops (or poppers). Also, no more worrying about the expiration date like you do with the refrigerated ones.

When purchased from Amazon via their promo sales, you can get a package of this for .50. Add in the price of 2 cups of milk (another .50), and you've made 4 servings of this for $1. Definitely a bargain!

Butterscotch at long last I've found you!!!!! I have two wonderful recipes
for breakfast sweet rolls ( one from Paula Deen the other from The Captain Lord Mansion in Kennebunkport ) that call for cook'n serve buterscotch pudding. Like everyone else who wrote, I could not find anywhere both in Atlanta, where I live. or in Los Angeles where my sister lives. Even tried in Tucson visting no luck!
I googled it and found it on Amazon! Thanks!! Yeah!!

I ordered the pudding from Amazon because it was not always easy to find @ my grocery store. Besides being a cost saver, this stuff is so darn good!

NOTE: directions say to NOT use prepared powdered milk, but I DO & it comes out just great. I make it with powdered fat free milk that is mixed with water. My husband says he can't eat a lot because it is so rich. I will definitely order it here again.

I ordered this from Amazon after reading other reviews and I'm glad I did! The pudding is really easy to make, just add skim milk and stir on medium heat for a few minutes and you have delicious pudding ready. I let it cool for a little while longer than mentioned on the pack as this makes the pudding thicker and more tasty.

Both my husband and I come from a strong family history of type 2 diabetes. He was diagnosed 10 years ago and I was diagnosed a little over a month ago.

When I made this pudding mix with skim milk, it spiked my husband's blood sugar so for a long time, we haven't had it. My husband has quite the sweet tooth and since he is very active and a normal weight, I decided to try making it with heavy cream instead. Skim milk has approximately 11.9 grams of carbs per cup and you need 2 cups to make this recipe. That's just too many carbs for us. Plus I know my husband and there's just no way he's going to limit himself to a half cup serving.

The heavy cream I buy has no carbs. Instead of 2 cups of milk I replace it with half heavy whipping cream and half water and cook as directed on the package. It sets up just fine. My husband loves it and even when he eats half of it at a time, it doesn't spike his blood sugar. It hasn't affected his weight or his cholesterol levels either. I make it about twice a week or so.

The downside: Adding heavy cream adds LOTS of calories to this pudding so if you are someone who has to watch fat/calories then this wouldn't work for you. I don't eat it because I only just got my blood sugar down to normal levels and I have more weight to lose so for now I'm leaving it out of my diet plan.
