Yes, some of these jelly roll books are starting to look awfully similar, but I am still happily buying most of them. Kimberly Einmo's Jelly Roll Quilt Magic approaches the field of pre-cuts from a different perspective: create 11 basic block units from 7 basic sub-units. Add some signature Einmo style and your own personal fabric favorites, and you've got 12 new projects to consider. No black hat or magic wand needed!

What I like most about Einmo's books is that her spirit pervades each page and every instruction. She may be a unique master of fabric magic, but she's also "one of us". There's a lot of "I" and "me" in her books, and reading her text is like having a genuine conversation with her. Like all of us, she's owned her own share of "ugly" what-was-I-thinking fabrics (her solution: cut them up into smaller bits that will sparkle), and discovered too late an error in the finished top ("Don't stress!").

Einmo's real talent is in seeing a beautiful forest in all those pre-cut trees. There are some really extraordinary quilts in this book. "Starry Pines" features a star assortment surrounded by four fields of perfectly positioned pine trees. "Summer Sparklers" is a study in red, white, and blue, a sort of Uncle Sam deconstructed without being obviously Fourth of July. Like leaves? "Leaves in The Pumpkin Patch" will satisfy the autumn-lover with its oranges and browns, not to mention the quilted pumpkin pattern. My current favorite (subject to change later today) is "Shooting Stars", a lovely structured medley of stars and 4-patches that morph into chains, all using Moda's Bliss fabric line that I am still nutty about. With this project, her irrepressibly impish spirit teases us to find the "itty bitty" mistake in the sample photograph.

I loved this book from the first moment. I fell in love with every quilt in it. I like how she writes. I love having Brigid's quilting to help me with finishing touches. I am on my second one already. What I am disconcerted about is that this has passed through the publishing stage with so many errors. I had over a yard of background left over from Leaves in the Pumpkin Patch because it called for 7 wide strips when only 3 were required. I spent a good portion of today trying to figure out how I was going to cut all the trees out for Starry Pines from only 8 green strips. Turns out, it isn't possible. You need 14. I have figured it all out, it will be stunning when completed and I am having a pretty good time doing it. However, beginners beware. Some of these projects are best begun with friends.

The author's first book showcasing pre-cuts, Jelly Roll Quilts and More, was a huge success -=- a best seller for AQS. This book takes the concept of using pre-cuts even further. Although Ms. Einmo suggests using 3 recommended specialty rulers to create the quilts in her book, she includes directions for using standard rotary cutting rulers. She also makes it clear that you do not have to use those pre-cuts -- you can use fabric from your stash to get great results.

The quilts are beautiful. Some are more advanced than those in the first book, but the results are well worth it. The radiant star alone is worth the price of admission. Kimberly writes in a very personal style, making you feel as though she is right there beside you while you sew. She gives a peek into her family, has some yummy recipes to share, and even gives suggestions for quilting your finished top. I really liked the pictures of alternate fabric selections and her patterns for little quilts make with the left-over cuts from the bigger quilts.

I find Kimberly's instructions precise, clear, and easy to follow. My only problem is trying to figure out which quilt to make first.

I took an online class from Kimberly Einmo. I was so impressed that I purchased her book along with "Jelly Roll Quilts & More" as these were her inspiration / instructions for this online class. I am also the leader for Jelly Roll Strip exchanges within my local quilt guild and believe these books can be an invaluable tool to making some amazing quilts.

Just one warning for potential buyers. Please visit her website and download the corrections to these books, as there is some errors / issues with the instructions.

This is the best Jelly Roll quilt book I have found. Most of the patterns in other books are very simple and boring, this book is worth spending the money for the Jelly Roll, the designs are challenging and beautiful. There is one problem however...the book needed better editing with the directions, for the seasoned quilter this can be dealt with, for the beginner it would be frustrating.

The book jelly roll quilt magic was purchased from Amazon. I received the book very quickly and I like the idea of being able to make a quilt out of a pre-cut material. Great for projects that you don't have a lot of time to devote to making.

For the longest I would not buy the stripes. Then I saw a pattern that called for them and it is easy as pie. The book has great patterns and directions.
