Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3?A general overview of the life cycle, behavior, and habitat of these intriguing water animals. Short chapters present basic information in a simple style written for beginning readers. The first page highlights words that may be unfamiliar and suggests the use of contextual clues to decipher the meanings, or the glossary if youngsters are really stuck. The carefully worded text is further clarified by amazingly sharp, full-color photographs and occasional, nicely detailed drawings. An endnote to adults supplies ways to encourage children to further their studies of jellyfish. Miranda MacQuitty's Discovering Jellyfish (Bookwright Pr., 1989; o.p.) is more thorough and includes the names of various species. However, the exceptionally clear writing and spectacular photography make Taylor's book a first choice for young nature lovers.?Arwen Marshall, New York Public Library
