3.0 out of 5 stars Big hair and big cartoons
I admit it, I watched JEM back in its heyday (or perhaps even a little afterward as my memories of it are the reruns on USA). It was the glitz, glam and excess of the 80s wrapped up into a glamorous hot pink package that makes an army of Barbie dolls look mudane and typical in comparision. Jem was like Rock Star Barbie, and the episodes for this series generally...

JEM is Truly Outrageous! Episodes include "Stitches" and "Culture Clash." I haven't seen the episode of "Stitches" in such a long time! It's my most favorite episode ever! JEM and the Holograms are chosen to be contestants for a Rock'n Roll fashion contest, and Shana is given the chance to design the Holograms' outfits. The mischievious Misfits somehow stole her designs and used them as their own! In the end of the story, you'll see who gets the last laugh, with the help of Synergy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Cartoon Based on the Hasbro Toy Line, December 30, 2000

Although I am a guy, "Jem" was one of my favorite cartoon series while growing up in New York City. Airing almost weekday morning at 8am on Channel 11, "Jem" was shown right before the station aired my favorite cartoon series, "The Transformers." "Jem" was Hasbro's answer to Mattel's ever-popular "Barbie" toy line, and unlike the latter, "Jem" was truly more fascinating and interesting.

"Jem - Vol. 2: Fashion Fiasco" contains two episodes "Stitches" and "Culture Clash." In the first episode, Jem and her band, the Holograms, travel to Venice, where bandmate Shana has entered her designs in a fashion contest. As usual, trouble shows its' ugly head as their rivals, the Misfits, also travel to Venice to enter the contest and cause havoc.

In "Culture Clash," the band travels to New York to film a video with one of the top avant-garde director out there. While not quite Andy Warhol, this director has an unusual way of annoying the band. However, when he is linked with a series of jewel robberies, the band gets involved to help clear his name.

It's great that Rhino Video has released this series and many other cartoon shows based of Hasbro toy lines (e.g., "The Transformers"; "G.I. Joe"; etc....). I hope they decided to release more of "Jem" on video, and hopefully on DVD in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keep these videos coming!, April 26, 2000

I love these cartoons! They are a terrific mix of music, great stories, and out and out fun. This video contains the episodes "In Stitches" and "Culture Clash". In the first episode Jem and the Holograms travel to Venice for Shana to compete in a rock fashion contest. There Shana has to deal with her insecurities, as well as the Misfits, who'll do anything to come out on top. In the second, the girls go to New York to shoot their new video with an avant-garde artist. They soon realise that his art doesn't mesh with their idea of this video, then they are ensnared in a jewel smuggling ring to boot. Let's hope Rhino releases some more of these great cartoons soon, because there are lots of Jem episodes that people haven't had a chance to see in years. Besides that, we have a whole new generation who is just learning who Jem is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Outrageous after all this time!, January 11, 2000

Jem takes me back to the a late 80's a time when music bands and cartoons mixed, but not as well as Jem did. Jem was a drama, a soap, a slight sci-fi edge and MTV thrown into the 80's mixer and out came a cartoon of awesome proprotations! These episodes make me me back to a time when cartoons were fun to watch and and music is that of the 80's wild and fun....(Now we need the episodes with the Stingers! )

5.0 out of 5 stars What more can I say...this video is Truly Outrageous!, September 7, 2001

This review is from: Jem - Fashion Fiasco (Vol. 2) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Here I was one day sitting at the computer looking through websites of 80's cartoons for an article I had to write for the school paper. I saw a link saying Jem and the Holograms; it sounded vaguely familiar...so I clicked it! Then there she was in all her glory! I had completely forgotten about her until this point and then the floodgates of my memory were washed away once I saw the picture of her. At that moment I was hooked. I hurried over to my local suncoast video and quickly ordered this video...to my delight, Rhino had just re-released Jem on video. I would just like to say that this cartoon really is outstanding...especially with most of the cartoons they have out today! The music really grows on you and the animation is marvelous, it reeks of glamour and glitter! Jem served as a role model for many girls in the 80's and children today can still relate to her. She promotes strength, intellect, and independence...while enteraining teaching and morals. This video is worth more than its weight in gold. For some great memories, good music, and delightful plots I would not hesitate to recommend this video!

I have missed Jem so much, its great to see her back on video! Fashion Fiasco has 2 cool Jem episodes on it, both with great color and sound! The music on the video is awsome, nice and clear. These episodes look so wonderful on VHS that I would love to have them on DVD! Keep the Jem videos coming, I will glady buy all 65 episodes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why Did everyone else get 3 packs?, May 4, 2000
This review is from: Jem - Fashion Fiasco (Vol. 2) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Finally we get a previously unreleased Jem episode! This is excellent 80's period animation, with excellent and catchy songs (you WILL be humming the Jem theme after watching this!) Still relevant today for kids, corny and retro for the uninitiated (this is not an insult! ^_^)

I love Jem and the world needs more episodes released. Both Gi Joe and Transformers started out with 3 packs last year, where Jem got one video, and later this one. Lets keep em coming! This may be the end of the re-releases so be sure to write kidrhino and tell them to bring out more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jem is the best!, October 17, 2002
By

This review is from: Jem - Fashion Fiasco (Vol. 2) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Jem was by far my very favorite cartoon show, and still is! It had it all, glamour, adventure, great music, romance, mystery, and interesting characters. Jem was always one of my role models, and I think a good one. I highly recommend this and any other Jem video! It should be released on DVD!! And if there is enough interest, maybe it will be. This video features 2 classic Jem episodes from the 1st season: "In Stitches" & "Culture Clash"

"In Stitches" focuses on Shana, the Holograms designer. Shana's beautiful work will be displayed in a contest held in Italy IF the Holograms can make it there on time! The Misfits are of course out to get the Holograms and they will do anything to win.

In "Culture Clash" The Holograms are off to New York to shoot their next video. They soon find that their wild director is only ONE of their problems. The Misfits show up to try and ruin the shoot and everyone gets caught up in a jewel-smuggling plot.

If you love the 80s, rock n roll music, or good animation this is the show for you! Check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Glamor, Glitter, Fashion and Fame!, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Jem - Fashion Fiasco (Vol. 2) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Jem has it all! This cartoon, and the toys were favorites of mine growing up. I dont think I would be who I am today without Jem. Now, I'm 21 and all sentimental about my childhood. I like to relieve it. Thank you Rhino for letting my spend more hours with childhood friends! I have both videos and EAGERLY await Vol. 3!

5.0 out of 5 stars She's Back!, January 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jem - Fashion Fiasco (Vol. 2) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
One of the best cartoon series ever made! It has everything from good stories, fun fashions, great characters and music. It was a show that didn't talk down to kids but addressed issues or situations to questions that a young audience might have along with making it entertaining.

It's good to have Jem back for future generations!

Now what can we do to get the remaining merchandise back? She is way cooler than Barbie.
