A great party game, or an ice breaker for meetings,

We played this game as an icebreaker for the strategic planning retreat of a non-profit I'm involved with. I knew about the basic Jenga game, but this grown-up version mixes that with wonderful "dares" ("Slow dance with a broom") or questions ("Have you ever left the house without underwear? Details!") The truth and dare blocks are red and black; if you happen to get a natural-colored block, which are blank, you hand it to another player of your choice, and that player gets to make up their own question or dare for you to do. The next time I saw my fellow board members after the retreat, at least three of them had bought or at least priced the game.

Truth or Dare Jenga is an interesting combination of 2 games you never thought would go together. As the reviews mention, you get blocks that are for "truths" and "dares" and the blanks for whatever you decide to make them. Prepare to learn a lot about the people you play it with...I do agree a little with the reviewer The Lo--the game is PG, but at least you have the blanks to write your own T or D on. The really fun part of the game is this: you can pull a block, read it, and decide you don't want to comply. BUT! Whichever block you pull out next, you HAVE to do, and that makes for some agitated looks, lots of sighing, and the inevitable, "Ok, here goes." This version of Jenga might work well where the group playing knows one another on a surface level (or if they're fairly close); I can't say that I'd attempt this with people I'm meeting for the first time because of what some of the truths ask for. There's just some stuff you don't want remembered as part of a first impression. ;-) A great choice for slumber parties, dorm room get-togethers, and your average party distraction. If this game doesn't get people talking and laughing, nothing will...

Unless you have players that are truly into the game of truth or dare, Jenga TorD will end being played just like the original Jenga. You play this game just like the original Jenga, picking blocks from the stack and placing them on top. The twist is that there are red and black blocks each asking a question in which you're to tell the truth to, or asking you to physically do something (a Dare). Now with the right players this is a great concept because at some point someone is going to have to choose that "dare" block, and you get to see some pretty funny stuff. However, if it is a conservative group you're playing with, you'll end up not doing anything daring and just continue playing regular Jenga... which in my opinion is no fun at all. Oh yeah, there are some blocks that are left blank so that you can put your own questions if you want (or do what I did and write different "shots" to take). The bottom line, if you and your friends are risque... then this is the Jenga for you. If not, go for the original Jenga.

One of the best games that does'nt involve a board. The jenga blocks have all different truths and dares that will keep you and your friends laughing for hours. You can even write your own dares and truths on the white blocks to add some dimension. This is a must play game for teenage girls and boys who are looking for fun. Gather some friends and get ready to swap clothing, expose crushes, and more. Get this game. You will not regret it!

Although my sister-in-law and I argued about how the game starts (I say the players build the tower from scratch; she says remove it from the box as a tower and start play from there), we both agreed that it was a great game! The truth or dare questions and actions were lots of fun, even embarrassing (making them more fun!) and we kept playing and playing after the tower tumbled down. This is definitely not a children's game, although worldly teens might enjoy it.

We had so much fun with this game the truth and dare pieces were unexpectedly fun and imaginative. It was great to be able to make up your own truth or dare pieces. Would recommend this game to everyone.

Cute but not for Kids......,

This is a cute game but not at all appropriate for children. The "Truth and Dare" parts of this game are absolutely directed at adults, even if terribly cheesy. ("Whats your favorite battery powered toy?" "Remove an item of clothing" "Sit on the lap of the person to the left of you until your next turn")My kids play it and we modify the dares but they are pre-readers so we can, fortunately, get away with it. Its wooden blocks, you stack them. Simple.

It is a nice toy for couples/partners. The write on blocks make for the chance of more detailed questions. Best played when eating fondue and drinking wine/champagne.

It really is pretty amusing, if you're an adult or close to it. The questions and dares are either PG, as noted, or unanswerable. Who in their right mind would give a truthful answer to "What was your most embarassing moment" in front of people they want to be able to face in the morning? But that's all curable, with imagination and a lead pencil. The real flaw I found with this game is that the natural blocks and painted blocks have slightly different thicknesses, so the Jenga part of the game is unstable and dissatisfying. I'm something of a purist, though, still hoping for a perfect 54-story Jenga. If you don't mind quick blameless toppling by innocent hands, it may not be a terrible defect. (My partial solution has been to remove the natural blocks and replace them with the yellow or blue painted blocks from my old Throw-N-Go Jenga set, which works okay. But I don't like to reward bad design with extra sales, so I can't recommend that avenue wholeheartedly.) |
