Product Description

Due to the convenience of deleting unwanted photos and inexpensive media storage, we take a lot more photos than the film era. Today's digital camera puts a lot of stress and loading on the battery, hence the battery grip becomes an essential accessory to most of us. Jenis battery grip uses the same build material as the original manufacture on all its product lines, to ensure a long time trouble free operation with your beloved digital SLR camera. The build quality and ergonomic not only matches the original equipment, there are some added functions on the higher end products that are designed with the professionals in mind. The extra features are not available either from the original equipment or the other battery grip on the market. The S model (Standard) provides the same function/capability as the original equipment. It can take up to two Li-ion battery or 6 to 8 AA batteries (depending on the model) to provide extra power reserved for longer shooting time. Depending on the camera design, some can also increase the continue shooting speed. There is an extra vertical shutter button to provide easy operation when shooting in portrait/vertical position. The control wheel provides the same functions as the original control wheel with easy access when operating in vertical position. The P model (Professional) has all the features in the S model but with some advanced essential functions. There is a clock which not only display time, but also serves as a self-timer or long exposure shutter control that can provide up to 99hr 59min 59sec delay time/B shutter. The SD model (Super Dual Storage) has all the features the P model has except the remote capability, but adds two extra high speed CF slots for people who like to take a lot of photos on a trip. A larger B&W LCD screen is provided to display some of the important shooting information. The grip also does some basic file operation. A high speed USB2.0 connection is also provided.

I bought this grip for my D90. Considering the price difference between this item and the official Nikon model, you might expect a low quality product. But it seems solid to me, it's fairly light and the plastic is no doubt thinner than the D90 body. It feels like a dream, I actually prefer holding this grip because I have big hands and it's more ergonomic.

This is an exact replacement for the MB-D80 as far as I can tell, they even went to some effort to get the finish identical. It has an optional 6x AA battery holder, 2 command dials, autofocus switch, shutter release on top, and an On/Off switch if you want to disable those features.

I installed it and it worked with no problem, fits tight to the camera. My friend who owns a D80 almost died when I told him how much this cost, he's going to sell his Nikon grip and get a Jenis instead.

I also considered getting one of the Jenis LCD models like Jenis J-ND90-P-B Professional Battery Grip for Nikon D90/D80 (Black). The main feature I wanted was time lapse photography, notably missing on the D90 and not provided by Nikon. Unfortunately the Jenis professional model is limited to 99 frames, which is too restrictive. I'll save the difference and buy a intervalometer like Satechi TR-M Timer Remote Control for Nikon D90 instead. And still save money over the MB-D80!

I don't really need a battery grip, but as Kelby says, "It just looks cool". It also just works. Another difference between the Nikon and this one besides $ is the Nikon has the on off switch around the shutter release. This one, as others, have a slide switch near the shutter release. The shutter release does not have the feel of the Nikon camera's, but for the price sacrifices are made. It has the standard retaining "slot" for the camera battery cover and a cover for the electrical contacts. A AA battery pack is also included, though I can't imagine not having standard backup batteries. The locking wheel works better if you have fingernails. You should know that this unit still adds a lot of weight to the camera (another battery) so I would suggest a non-slip shoulder strap (mine is an UPstrap) and learning to wrap the strap around your lower right arm when the strap is not around your neck. It also adds a lot of dimension to a working camera (6 inches in total height with a D90 camera) so you need to check your current camera bag for fit with grip and lens attached. I had to upgrade to a Kata 467i which is a bigger bag than I wanted, but protection is protection.

Bought this to maximize my battery life while shooting a wedding. I was able to use it for 5.5 hrs and the battery indicator still showed a full charge, so it did the job. My only complaints with this is that the sub and main command dials provided on the unit don't always work. I have to keep messing with them sometimes before settings actually change on the camera. Not a big deal because I probably won't ever use them. Also, when using the grip, the camera's menu or playback buttons have to be pressed twice before they work. Just an annoyance. And lastly, it makes the camera heavier and in the long run, since I'm a woman, I end up with a sore right wrist after prolonged use. So it does the job, with minor glitches, and I guess I need to build up my wrist muscles. :^)

love the added flexibility this affords. Unfortunately, the battery I purchased at the same time doesn't work in it and research indicates no one purchasing the Opteka for Nikon EN-EL3E has had any luck if they own the D90.

The product is alright, doesn't have the best grip feel. The biggest problem is that it doesn't work with third party batteries (energizer).
