"We Love You Ella!" - Ella Jenkins: A Life of Song

Biography

"You'll sing a song and I'll sing a song, and we'll sing a song together." That is what Ella Jenkins has done for more than 50 years in preschools, festivals, auditoriums, early childhood conferences, and concerts around the world. Ella was the first "folk" performer to teach fun, interactive music in schools and preschools, incorporating world cultures, the joy of music, and the basic skills… Read more in Amazon's Ella Jenkins Store

Editorial Reviews

Legendary children’s performer Ella Jenkins and a group of young and older musical friends introduces children to the ideas of unity, cooperation, and labor unions through songs, recitation, and poetry. Recorded in 1999, this CD features harmonica, piano, percussion, banjo, guitar, vocals, and chorus. The recording reminds us how unity and strength are part of family ties as well as adult life and work. 47 minutes, 18 -page booklet, discography. Suitable for children ages 4-12 and their parents.

4.0 out of 5 stars A unique children's recording., January 6, 2000

This review is from: Ella Jenkins & A Union of Friends Pulling Together (Audio CD)
Ms. Jenkins and the musicians who join her for this recording have done a fine job introducing labor music and history to children. Labor music and history seems to be lost on the modern age and it is important that children know of the battles waged to stop the economic exploitation of children and all workers. Jenkins softens this message in a way that is especially effective for kids. The meaning of union thus becomes transformed into something larger than labor unions. Union becomes the joining of all humans in the struggle for a better world! Ms. Jenkins is joined by some exceptional Chicago-based musicians, including songwriter and guitarist Bucky Halker. Halker's guitar and vocals can be heard throughout the recording.
