Hello daddy, hello mom, I'm your J-J-J-J-J-J Jennie Bomb,
This review is from: Jennie Bomb (Audio CD)
I first heard of Sahara Hotnights 2 years ago when a Swedish friend of mine made a mix tape for me, which included the amazing 'Drive Dead Slow,' from their first album. I bought the album, and fell in love with them. Then last year I was at a Donnas show, with Sahara Hotnights supporting, and fell in love with them all over again, although I was disappointed that most of the songs they played were off their new album, which I hadn't yet heard. So after the show I asked Maria when they would be releasing the album in the UK (this was in May), and she told me it would be coming out in July. Well, not too long to wait, I thought, and contented myself with a copy of the brilliant single "On Top Of Your World." July came and went. As did August, September, and October. By November I just couldn't wait any longer, so off I went to Stockholm to pick up a copy of Jennie Bomb from their native country. And what a fantastic album it is! This ranks as one of my favourite albums of last year, alongside The White Stripes' 'White Blood Cells', Kristin Hersh's 'Sunny Border Blue', and Muse's 'Origin of Symmetry'. Sahara Hotnights play songs that are full of energy, emotion and passion. The stand-out tracks for me are the pop-punk of 'No Big Deal', the soaring 'Only The Fakes Survive', and the aforementioned 'On Top Of Your World', and there isn't a track that I don't love. With hindsight, it may have been more cost-effective to order a copy from Amazon instead of travelling all the way to Sweden. And that's what you should do. Now!

This is good, but they're GONNA be great...,

Part of this terrific "new" wave of female rockers, Sahara Hotnights...you just gotta love that name...put together a fairly decent album. The group is tight, the tunes speed along briskly and many of the melodies are hummable. It's not a great album, but it almost is. It lacks maybe a little better production, or one to two killer tunes...it's a difficult-to-define something that the girls just miss. Having said that, I leave with two thoughts: 1) They're only going to get better. Listening to this makes you want to hear their next one... 2) You can better believe I'm going to BUY that next one too! This is a band to root for...

Jennie Bomb,

Sahara Hotnights might be the latest Swedish import but they certainly mark themselves as one of the best. These four ladies bring classic punk rock hooks with just enough of a pop sensibility to make them more palatable to the masses and easier to digest than other like-minded Scandinavian bands - The Hives and The International Noise Conspiracy. *Jennie Bomb* certainly makes the aforementioned boys jealous of the girls' firepower instantly exploding with eleven songs in thirty-two minutes. "On Top Of The World" and "Fire Alarm" are from the punk album No Doubt never made as lead singer Maria Andersson comes off as a prettier Joan Jett fronting the Ramones. Sahara Hotnights are posed to break big with *Jennie Bomb* and it won't be long until their name is mentioned with the same reverence of other grrrl rawkers Sleater Kinney and L7.

This record is exactly the high tempo straight ahead type of music I was looking for. My Siouxsie and the Banshees CD now has a playmate in Jennie Bomb, the debut album from Sahara Hotnights. If they were guys, I might write them off as too derivative of previous punk bands, but the very fact that they are female, means that their sound has enough of a twist to it that they sound like something new and exciting rather than old and rehashed. I must admit that most of the songs sound very similar and tend to blend into one another, but this is more due to the fact that all of them are so strong. This is not one of those albums that has a catchy single and then is filled with experimental fluff. The entire CD (all 32 minutes of it) is a high grade adrenaline shot in the arm, so if that is what you are looking for, then you could hardly go wrong with this recording.

GARAGE GURLZ RULE MY SKOOL,

one of my most favorite girl groups right now. They're fiesty, pushy, aggresive fems who know how to write songs with POP ROCK HOOKS FROM HEAVEN. I have to admit that, at least for myself, this "garage rock" band of girls is the best one around. Their songs are solid, unshakable, and extremely CATCHY. Oh yeah, and they're some of the sexiest girls in rock right now.. droool

Just picked up Jennie Bomb, and I have to say it's UNREAL!I've heard/read plenty about the band, and was pleased to hear for myself that they live up to all the press. It's been a while since I was so blown away by something that I had only read about. I Definitely suggest picking this one up....you'll see what I mean!

If you like straight forward ... Rock-N-Roll, you have to buy SAHARA HOTNIGHTS - JENNIE BOMB. Imagine the Clash playing Wire songs with a Velvet Underground feel, but better and faster, with Debbie Harry singing. All 13 songs on this masterpiece are flawless, feedback drenched, skull splitters. If you're a fan of early HELLACOPTERS, BACKYARD BABIES, or have any taste at all you'll worship this record and this band. Oh yeah I forgot to tell you I just saw them live and they are even better live. Don't miss out on this.

This Swedish girl rock group have a good grasp of the key ingredients to great rock music: attitude and talent. With their good looks and "I'm-gonna-kick-your-...-with-my-hot-boots-if-you-don't-shut-up-and-listen" attitude, they will be sure to entertain you. They definitly make better and harder rock/punk music than most of their all-male AND all-female rock contemporaries. It's obvious to anyone after listening to the record that these rock chics know how to make great punk/rock music.

This album is simply amazing; every song is great and gets stuck in my head. Not only did I love the songs the first time I heard them, but I love them more every time I listen to them. If you're just getting into the Sahara Hotnights, this is the album to start your collection. And the second disc is definitely worth the extra couple bucks. Here's what I give each song on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being one of the worst songs ever and 10 being one of the best.
1) ALRIGHT ALRIGHT 9.5/10 2) KEEP UP THE SPEED 10/10 3) ON TOP OF YOUR WORLD 8/10 4) FIRE ALARM 8.5/10 5) NO BIG DEAL 9/10 6) WITH OR WITHOUT CONTROL 7.5/10 7) DOWN AND OUT 8.5/10 8) ONLY THE FAKES SURVIVE 7/10 9) FALL INTO LINE 7/10 10) WE'RE NOT GOING DOWN 10/10 11) OUT OF THE SYSTEM 8.5/10 1) KEEP UP THE SPEED 10/10 2) TEENAGE KICKS 9/10 3) BREAKDOWN 10/10 4) NOW TONIGHT 9/10 Out of the 400+ CDs I have, Jennie Bomb is in my top 10. Also, if your huge Sahara Hotnights fan like me, check out my Best of the SAHARA HOTNIGHTS album, I created @ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/guides/guide-display/-/117CXJB6HUS0I/ref=cm_aya_av.sylt_sylt/103-2144183-9187821

Overrated and overhyped drivel,

Of all the lame bands in the "Swedish invasion" or whatever they're calling it, these girls are unquestionably the worst. Substandard musicianship, a lot of posing and no songs to speak of. Not a good live band, either.
